Suspecting and knowing are two different things, and I am a careful person when it comes to making judgements about people. If I suspected something awful about my step dad (and I do), I would tell my friends. If I KNEW something, however, I would first tell my friends, and then make a beeline for my mom.
One thing's for certain: if the knowledge was absolute, I would make sure I had physical evidence to prove I'm telling the truth (I already have a reputation for being honest, but evidence helps...).
I love my mother dearly and don't want to accidentally lie to her about something really serious. After all, if he's my step father, she's already deeply involved with that person...
