Amanda Seyfried could definitely pull off the fierceness of Christine too. She's not a bad singer, but I've only heard her in pop and musical songs. It would be fascinating to hear her try opera.

Alright, how about Erik? Who would you not have to kill?

I actually have (two) something(s).

William Finnay, the man who played Winslow in "Phantom of the Paradise" passed away last weekend.

And, I managed to bring another phan to Gaia!

He just recently died? For some reason I kept thinking he died decades ago. Also wasn't his last name Finley? My brain might be scrambled. Which reminds me I've been meaning to re-watch Phantom of the Paradise. I don't think I've seen it since I was, like, 15 or 16.

Also I came across this awesome painting a few days ago on DA: The Angel of Music I meant to link it earlier in the week but I've been down with some odd combination of sinus infection and physical fatigue, couple that with daily migraines that don't go away and there's my excuse for not talking.

On an unrelated note, this fall Les Mis is FINALLY coming to my state and that's gonna be my Christmas present. Wicked's coming back next Spring and when my mom and I saw it in 2010 she fell in love with it so chances are I'll see that again. Now if the goddamn US tour would resume and actually have a stop here instead of making the nearest stop Houston (aka a day's drive away) then I could die happy.
Anyone read the Phantom by Susan Kay?

I have. Have my own copy too, though lord knows where it went. I actually enjoyed the novel up until the point it met up with the original story line, Kay's Christine was very one-dimensional but I applaud her for being one of the few authors, published or not, to not make Raoul into an antagonist.

But I have to say that Kay's romance novel writing background shines through since every stage of Erik's life tends to hold some love interest or sexual tension. I noticed that after reading it a couple more times, I didn't catch a lot of the subtle stuff since the first time I read it was during exams my freshman year of high school.

Oh no! Thorn must be upset if she still is into PotP. D:

I also read Phantom, it provided an interesting back story about the Phantom's beginnings.

It probably was Finley - I was guessing at his last name. XP

I read "Phantom" back in college. Maybe it was the time, but I was slightly embarassed by all the sexual references. I agree with how it's a great novel, up to reaching the original novel. I managed to find a copy at a book sale, that is now a part of my collection.

Aww, that's sad about William Finley. sad I love Phantom of the Paradise and listen to the soundtrack often.

I've read Phantom and have mixed feelings about it, but yay for Raoul not being the "bad guy."

Historically it's one of the more accurate "prequels" I've come across. Though I'll admit I cringe all through the chapters where he's working for a stone mason. There's just something very awkward about that whole section, but then again for all I know it's meant to be that way given his age during it. I just felt the whole "she falls off the roof" bit was melodramatic. I mean really.

This question might get me shot, but I have to know:
Is Hugh Panaro gay?

Not that he's admitted I don't think.

Genuine curiousity: what brought that about? Then again I'm always shocked when an actor or broadway star comes out the closet but I guess that's my "but I've seen them kiss wimminz!" argument. XD Although after learning Nathan Lane was gay I can't watch anything with him in it and be convinced when he plays a straight role. Probably doesn't help the first thing I ever saw him in was "The Birdcage".

That aside the only Phantom cast member I've ever heard about being gay was Crawford. I'm sure there's others but bed warmer preferences aren't really my "need to know" things about people.

Yeah, out of the blue. (Or cellars if you prefer)

I was on a different site earlier today (?) and someone mentioned him coming out of the closet. Which made me wonder, because I thought he was married.

I did not know Crawford was gay. That's a shocker.
