In measurement in science, the number of significant digits is usually encoded in the way a number is written. When you add sig figs into here, my degree of percision means that I have a error of ±.1... Which technically means that I am either .9 of a person of 1.1 of a person.

It can be interpreted in many different ways, and there are hidden assumptions. Just as the assumption that we're dealing with sig figs in 2+2=5.
