Welcome to Gaia! ::

Now that I have your attention newbs, read carefully.

Hopefully this thread title is catchy enough so to attract new people that come onto this side of our boards. I'll start by saying that any ideas for adding to this will be accepted by any forum regulars. To those just starting out here - if you read this, and follow these rules, your stay might actually be enjoyable and informative.

These are the rules that I pray to god you guys should follow -

Rule # 1 - ITS NOT TECHNO. I can, without a doubt say that whatever group you are here to discuss is not techno. For more "basic" information, please refer to Ishkurs Guide To Electronic Music to get a general idea for genres. Yes, we are Genre Nazi's here, get over it.

Rule # 2 - If you post about pop bands (Hellogoodbye, Medic Droid, etc.), Rock/Electronic bands (i.e. New Mindless Self Indulgence), or anything that really doesnt belong here, your thread will be immediately reported and moved. More or less, if you heard it on your local indie station, it doesn't belong here.

Rule # 3 - Regulars are always right, even when we are wrong

Rule # 4 - Don't take offence when we say the music you like sucks. There is probably a valid reason (poor production value, not innovative, steals music *coughCrystalCastlescough*). If its not explained why we dislike your music - Ask. We wont bite if you are willing to listen.

Rule # 5 - When posting music, you openly put yourself up for commentary, whether it is good or bad. Read Rule # 4 - We are willing to help you out. Just dont be an idiot about it.

Rule # 6 - When posting a thread, please stick to already made threads about your band. Hunt if you have to, becuase man, when I came online one day to see 3 Medic Droid threads on the front page, I almost shot someone.

Rule # 7 - Dont necro old threads to say "OMG I LOVE THIS BAND"

Rule # 8 - Have some meat to your posts - Having threads that just say "I love them" for 4 pages long is retarded. And it really shows how deep the bands fans are ^.~

Rule # 9 - : : Oakenfold threads will be persued by the Oakengnome.

AND....

Rule # 10 - Tiestowonka ownz your soul.

Hope this helps out new people, or atleast gives the regulars some amusement when someone new comes into this thread to b***h us out. I mean, hey we could always use laughs in our day, right?

And as we had to tell Miriya Cailis the other day "STFU and GTFO" usually means "Hey, welcome to /f.73/, and have a wonderful day!"

Added rules -

Rule # 11 - To have people respond to you, remember, your keyboard has the ".?!," for a reason. I'm not asking for perfect grammar, but when you get a wall of text with no periods, its a b***h to read. And on that point, plz dunt tlk lyke dis. Its really ******** annoying, and I promise you the first 20 posts in your thread will be "What the ******** did you just say?"

Rule # 12 - PLEASE DEAR GOD DON'T SAY THAT TIESTO DJs. He doesnt kids. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I heard it straight from the sound techs at a Go Venture/Insomniac party (The guys who do Monster Massive, TAO, Nocturnal, Electric Daisy Carnival, etc.). He puts on a CD and dances around like a f**. If you made this post a few years ago, then maybe you would be right.

Rule # 13 - Know what the term DJ means! DJ = Disk Jockey. The guy who plays music at a party. Some DJs make music, some dont. While on the subject, Producers (people who make music) dont always DJ. Sorry to keep whoring out one of my favorite groups right now, but Ephexis produces music, and does Live PA's (making music live). That means that Ephexis IS NOT a DJ.

Rule # 14 - DO NOT post up links to Newgrounds Audio Portal - that place is a cesspool of music.

Rule # 15 - Do not post Vs. threads. They only insite flamewars between stupid fanboys. And 99% of the time, those threads are an apples to oranges comparison.

Rule # 16 - Skrillex is not dubstep.
I approve of this thread.

If people don't read the stickies what makes you think they will read this? dramallama
Yeah no one reads the stickies sadly sad
But if we can keep this post at the top (well close to the top) of the page than more people will read it. Just need to rotate the title every once in a while

ex. "Church of Tiesto/Oakenfold/Darude Worship" or "The Best Techno Thread Evar"
It's unfortunate that this stuff needed to be said. Most of it seems like common sense.

Thats what I was thinking myself.

And at K1DUK: This is the interwebs, you really think that people have common sense here?

when has THAT ever happened?
I like how rule #4 makes the point that our subjective preference in music directly reflects the objective truth. It's my favorite wink

It cant happen - Even when we are dead wrong, we're always right. So I guess it was kinda pointless to even say that last part.

But hey, I say 2+2=5, so yeah. Im right biatch.

And on a side note - Im supprised I got such good response on this thread. Lets keep this thing bumped at the top.

Winston Smith on doublethink
In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable—what then?

It's my favorite book. I wanted a quote from that section of the book explaining doublethink so I did a search on Wikipedia.
