My backyard. My family owns only about 20 acres, but I've got a beautiful field on one side and a gorgeous forest on the other. Our closest neighbor is a half a mile away. And besides our property, we're surrounded by a small canyon, and more forest. Thousands of acres of it. It's amazing what you see up here- besides the squirrels, we have chipmunks, tons of birds (including bald eagles, and lots of hawks), wolves (endangered my foot), coyotes, moose, lots of deer, elks, etc. We also have cougars and foxes; the little buggers keep stealing our chickens.
We live within a ten minute drive of the lake, and a five minute drive of a amazing park. We have a seasonal creek at the lower end of the field. The nearest town has a population of about 1000 (and it's five miles away). The nearest city is over an hour away.

You know, I often forget how lucky we are, living out here. It's magnificent.

there are the smokey mountains. I go there usually every summer, and there's this trail that you can drive onto.

The trail leads to old houses, and a water mill. If you go far enough, it leads to a waterfall where you can climb to the top, and it's really nice, and the air is nice and clear so you can sit and take nice deep breaths, it's REALLY nice

One of the most isolated places I've ever been. I loved it! I've never been in such a beautiful untouched place. Me and my boyfriend felt so small in the mountains. The time we went was one of the biggest snowfalls in the UK, and it was 3 foot deep in places. I think that made it even more special. On the picture with the beach, the rockpool you see was FROZEN SOLID! o 3o;

Sherwood Forest → Major Oak

Robin Hood hid in Major Oak, according to legend. Now its held up with wooden scaffolding because its becoming too heavy and it can't bear its own weight. I love it, a tree with crutches!

Rufford Country Park

We go feed the duckies and walk around the *huge* reserve sometimes. Its a really pretty place, and theres so many animals.. Ducks, geese, deer, bunnies.. I love it there. Its really special and its on our doorstep.

Nottingham Castle

Lastly, the gardens at Nottingham castle are WONDERFUL. I love taking pictures of all the flowers. Its really really beautiful. Still nature, but its much more pruned and such. The gardens are very loved there.

Sorry for such a picture spam.. I can only describe some of the natural beauty I see with a picture! Even they don't do it justice!

I go right into my own backyard.
I never had to go much further away than that.

I live in Ireland, it's everywhere!! Apart from some city areas, you are rarely more than a walk from countryside biggrin

Ah, lucky. It's been my dream to live there ever since I was five. I've only ever seen pictures of it, photos that a friend of mine sent back. It's so picturesque. Absolutely amazing.

Carpe Jugulum? Must be a Terry Pratchett fan.

Huuuge fan! heart Pratchett is my happy pill biggrin

Ireland has a lot going for it. Very clean air, little tendency to natural disaster, no dangerous critters, beautiful places, not as big a crime rate as some countires. Maybe it's a little romanticized by people from other countries, it does have it's problems, but I really don't want to be anywhere else xd

I'm actually fairly allergic to nature, so I don't reconnect with it very often. I did used to enjoy the trips to some park in New Hampshire though, at least until it got to bug season and black flies and mosquitoes ate me alive. crying
