I adore Fleet Foxes and Simon and Garfunkel.

If you like folk that has indie sound to it (sometimes more than folk, but I still love these bands), there's Andrew Bird, Animal Kingdom, Florence and the Machine , Iron and Wine, and The Weepies.

Start with '40s/'50s artists like Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. If you like that material look into stuff by sixties revivalists like Dave Van Ronk and then branch out from there.

Second the Van Ronk, he's a favorite of mine. I'd also toss in Pete Seeger. You might be able to find a stream of Oscar Brand's "Folk Song Festival" that runs on New York's WNYC public radio, he plays lots of good stuff.

but yeah, folk isn't really my thing, i like indie. so i love stuff like Fleet Foxes, Midlake, Animal Collective and that kind of stuff.
really should check out Sufjan Stevens earlier work too!
