Introductions

After somewhat recently (July) moving to the Syracuse area of New York full time, I noticed how the Syracuse area has... almost no conventions.

There's ToraCon. In Rochester. UBCon. In Buffalo. And then there's a couple in NYC. The only Syracuse-area con is Anime Syracuse, which is a one-day festival, rather than an entire convention.

But, given the number of people that I saw there (and did you see me? I was dressed as Rei Ayanami!), it's obvious that the Syracuse area has cosplayers.

I'm here to find those cosplayers that also have a Gaia account, and form a loose sort of group. Not necessarily an actual cosplay group, but a place where we can talk about cons and costumes and possible meet-ups.

The area I consider "Central New York" is the square around Syracuse--east of Rochester, west of Utica, north of Cortland, south of Watertown. Or, here-ish.

Get-togethers. Picnics. Photoshoots. Maybe even tutorial/advice sessions. We could hook up with local anime clubs (such as the one that runs Anime Syracuse, or the one at UB) for anime viewing parties and to get to cons further away. This thread is just a place for those within the CNY area to realize that we're not alone in our hobbies

That's the long and short of what you might want to know about me. I used to live in Daytona Beach with a pretty much built-in cosplay group consisting (primarily) of my room mates, two friends from college, and a guy we met and all really hit it off with at a con. I've traveled quite a ways (all the way to California!) for a convention, but I do prefer the close-to-home ones more. I love cosplaying in public, partly because I've never gotten in trouble for it--even Disney was pretty much okay with us being there in costume (the only time we were approached was when someone misunderstood what we were doing and thought we were making something for profit; she told us that we couldn't have the Disney logo in it).

Currently I live near Phoenix, up in Oswego County... Which is where the term "Lake Effect Cosplay" comes from! Since this is pretty much the "lake effect region" of NY, why not name the cosplayer collection after it?

You may recall my previous attempt at making a thread for CNY cosplayers. We're going to steadfastly ignore that old shame.
