Izaya Orihara Cosplay Help

Ello there.
In June I might possibly be going to A-Kon 23 and I want to cosplay. It's my first convention and first time cosplaying.
I'm thinking of doing Izaya Orihara or Matryoshka Len Kagamine.
I don't have the money to buy a cosplay so I plan on making my own... hopefully.
I found a cheap wig for Izaya, but for Len I might actually cut and dye my hair, though I'm not sure 'cuz I'm afraid blonde or short hair won't look good on me... <.< >.>;
But anywhooo... I'm trying to figure out what material Izaya's jacket is made of.
Does anyone know what I should use? I don't plan on sewing 'cuz I can't... So... yeah... Is it like a regular hoodie/jacket? Or... something else?

Honestly, I would say go for Izaya because the wig means you don't have to physically alter your appearance in a permanent way. I know it can seem a bit 'elitist' sometimes, but I will always recommend using a wig with a cosplay, it just tends to look better, is more useful, and gosh, I personally don't understand how people DON'T like to use wigs, but of course that last one is intirely my opinion and preference.

As for his jacket, you can really go for any material. You say you're not sewing it, so you plan to just mod a pre-existing jacket?

You can go by the character reference sheet or you could look at what other people have done with their cosplay jackets.

It seems like you need a long (probably thin) black zippered coat/sweat jacket/whatever that already has a hood. I guess I would then suggest getting some faux fur from a craft store or fabric store and either using liquid stitch or careful sewing to get fur around the wrists, rim of hood, and hem of jacket.

It's possible you could look for a jacket with a fur trim around the hood, then just look for matching fur to add to the wrists and hem, but one of the important features of Izaya's coat is that it is long and most jackets I've seen don't tend to be as thin or long and tapered as his is. Consider your budget and time left before the con, and how much money and effort you'd have to put into find the right jacket and buying it and tweaking it (as well as cost of gas it takes for you to get to malls or clothing stores). It's possible it would be easiest and more cost effective in the long wrong to get a commissioner to make it for you. Luckily it is a fairly simple clothing piece, or so I have seen and been told by the few commissioners I once spoke to, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a commissioner who would make it at a rather reasonable price.

Len actually doesn't have that short of hair, it is pulled back in a ponytail that, I believe, would normally fall to about the base of his neck.

But, I would also suggest with cosplaying as Izaya...mainly because I crossplay as Shizuo 8D muahaha! Ok but seriously, his outfit is relatively simple enough that you would honestly only really need to make his jacket, which there are probably tons of tutorials online to help you with. It would be a pretty decent cosplay to start out with if you haven't made a lot of costumes before. Another plus is that you found a relatively cheap wig for him, which can end up being cheaper than going out and having your hair cut and dyed. Plus, you are a little weary on changing your actual hair, so a wig would be much better for you.


EDIT

Oh and you could probably just find any long, button-up, black jacket with a hood and alter it. You could probably find relatively cheap faux fur to line the bottom, sleeves, and hood with. You could go with either white or brown for the fur, I've seen cosplayers do both personally and look absolutely wonderful.

Well I've been wanting to cut my hair short and go blonde for awhile now. Either way I'm probably going to cut it short, but I'm not sure about the blonde. Besides, I change my hair all the time. ^^;;

Haha I know that, but I'd have to get a bigger size for it to go past the waist, so it probably wouldn't be that tight.
I guess I'll ask my mom or sister to take me to a thrift store and we'll look for something thats like his jacket. :3
I really wanna go as Len, too. I already talked to two others on here who are going as Matryoshka vocaloids. :3

I'm pretty sure most of the Vocaloid characters have a matryoshka cosplay.

But if not you could always make up the Vocaloids Matryoshka outfit too.
