Welcome to Gaia! ::

Okay I'll try to summarise this without turning it into an infamous bad convention story:
-Have known a girl for a few months, met her at a con
-Was talking to her a few days ago, she starts this rant about how you should only cosplay within your ethnic group of whatever
-I said I thought that her opinion was retarded; cosplay is about fun, etc.
-She condemns me for cosplaying anime because I'm "not asian like her". (She's not asian either but whatever, there wasn't much point getting into it. She's still in her "phase".)
-I sarcastically say that it's a good thing my boyfriend and I are cosplaying from the Harry Potter series for London MCM May.
-She flips actual s**t at this, because HP isn't an anime.
-Casually walk away from argument, MCM stands for Manga, Comic, Media, anyway. MEDIA.
-Now she's threatening to kill my boyfriend and I, and possibly our Luna, Ron, and Snape.
-Turns out this has happened to other people before me and they did actually get attacked or verbally abused.

TLDR: How do I go to find con security the second things start getting out of hand? They undoubtedly will because of this girl's track record, and I don't want to have to deal with this any longer than necessary. I've been going to the ExCel centre for MCM for years now, but have /never/ figured out who or where con security is.

Thankyou~

Honestly, con security is around almost all of the time wearing something that is easy to recognize. If you want, you could find someone as soon as you enter the con and tell them about this situation. You could kindly ask if a con security guard can stay around you so you can point her out, then have them stand at a distance to see what she does. That way she can get caught in the act and have an actual reason to get thrown out of the convention, and you and your friends would remain safe.

If that doesn't work, you could always scream bloody murder and someone will definitely run towards you. Also, stay around a lot of people, because if someone is getting hurt, chances are just about everyone around you will stop them.

Also, maybe carry around a small thing of mace? I know it sounds kind of silly, but if she starts getting physical just spray her in the face with it and run away to find con security (Just make sure you don't get mace on anyone in the surrounding area razz But chances are, if she is acting crazy people will naturally step far away from her).

Yeah, I'll definitely have a look around, thanks.
I was thinking of asking the volunteers where I'd find security when we're queuing for tickets.
And yes, screaming! If all else fails, I'll definitely resort to that. Unfortunately in the UK we aren't allowed to carry mace/pepper spray unless we're members of the police service; otherwise it amounts to battery.
Thankyou sweatdrop

Yeah, the volunteers at the convention will definitely be able to point you in the right directly. Cons are usually really good when it comes to complaining about people, seeing as there can be a lot of pervs that go to cons haha. But your case is a little more severe than some random guy oogling at you.

And that's something new surprised I didn't know you weren't allowed to carry mace in the UK.

I am sorry to hear that this happen to you. Obviously, that girl is crazy and is planning to ruin your day at London MCM. Try to see if you can contact or send an email to general enquiries. Ask them where you can locate security and they should be able to tell you that.

General Enquiries
Email: info@mcmexpo.net
Tel: 0844 448 7600
(10am to 4pm Monday to Friday answerphone outside these hours and when we are not in the office)

I just found it at there site.

Ok, this is just FUNNY. As for con security, well there's really not much you can do about her unless you actually get both evidence or witnesses that she's gonna go batshit insane on you. I would just watch my back on her, and to get con security right away, just inform everyone around you of imminent danger.

If someone ever tried saying that to me or to my friends, and did follow up on their words, I'll probably just restrain them myself. /inb4internettoughguy I actually know s**t.

p.s. Although used somewhat inappropriately, I agree that she is acting retarded.

Wow. That is... odd. Con security can be hard to spot (esp in some conventions where they are allowed to be in cosplay), but if you know what to look for it will be easier; when you first check in, ask the ladies and gentlemen at the desk what security looks like, how to reach them, and warn them about this girl so they can be on the lookout. Otherwise, just be sure to make a scene if she does start something and, as Ithlia mentioned, carrying a bit of mace isn't a bad idea.

That is unacceptable. Wow.
find some really tough guys that are willing to cosplay as Crabb and Goyle to act as bouncers, make good friends with con security (bonus if one of your friends actually is one). For exceptional fun, have a picture of her, post it on a "Wanted: Escaped from Azkaban" and hand it out at the con!
I actually never recall seeing security at MCM's O: (Also a UK cosplayer) though I've never been to London, I will in May though ^^
I don't know why you're hanging with someone like her anyway, and why she needs to hurt you guys for cosplaying non-anime? O.O

Make sure you are never alone with her. If you are near her, make sure it's in a crowd so if something happens there will be people around to help or get help.
I personally wouldn't worry about it at all. If she starts crap at the con you can just ignore her and focus on having fun, if she starts something physical then just punch her in the face.

Omg, this. So much.
Although I doubt I'll find anyone up for it; I may as well try! xD

& ty everyone for your responses.
I'll try to avoid her as much as possible; luckily we're not sharing the same hotel so it's only the one Saturday I need to worry about.
I think, from browsing the mcm forums, that con security sometimes cosplay as stormtroopers, so that's always good to know.

Oh my gosh i know you're serious but i actually started laughing whee Honestly i'm not too sure how things work where you live, because in Australia we have security people dressed in easily recognizable uniform everywhere throughout the con. But hey, assuming that's a large con, how's she going to to find you in the first place?

Yeah, if it wasn't happening to me, I'd find it kind of funny too xd xd
If I wasn't in cosplay; it'd be pretty easy to blend in. But she knows our cosplay group, what we look like, etc.
I mean, if she tries anything I can deal with it, but I don't want a whole massive drama.
I'm more concerned about our Luna than myself, seeing as she has anxiety issues. And yeah, one thing that isn't good for anxiety is being followed around all day by a girl with questionable sanity.

I'm pretty sure con security is only accessible via the convention helpdesk; I checked out the forums and there have been a few complaints about the lack of easily identifiable security at the con, but that there is an info desk that basically calls security for you and notify them of the situation.

Worst case, we'll all just retreat to my hotel room for a bit until she chills out and/or gets bored.
If anyone's been to the ExCel and actually figured out where this desk is, that'd be awesome to know! The forums just say that there is one, and my email basically said that "con security exists". xD

Hmm, a storm trooper escort isn't a bad idea either...Anyone know a good Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader cosplays? This way, if she confronts you, you can just say "I worship the Dark Side" and walk away. heeeheehee. Idiots like these give conventions a bad name. Having fun with them, however, makes it all worth while. Why let them win when you can torture them with various fandoms instead?
