What convention are you going to?

What exactly would like to know? Either way, I'll give you some tips.

1. Be sure to eat and drink real food. Not just sweets(pocky, ramune, etc...). Keept something like a granola bar and water bottle handy.
2. If it's your first con, stay with friends/people you know. This is especially important if you are a minor, a girl, or just plain small. Even conventions have creeps.
3. Keep your cell phone on yourself. It's great for contacting people you're meeting there or if you get seperated from your group.
4. It's also a good idea to keep some extra money on hand for food and whatever you want to get out of the dealer's room. Actually, lots of money if you plan on going crazy in the dealer's room XD.
5. Cosplaying isn't necessary, but it makes the con more fun. I can help you pick one out if you want.
6. If you want something to remember you con by, bring a camera and take pictures of people.
7. Don't glomp unexpectedly. It can be dangerous to your "victim" as well as their cosplay and innocent bystanders.
8. Unless you lack the funds to do so, getting a hotel room is one of the best ways to go. You get to see more of the con

Oh, and I made this list for someone else. It took me a moment to find it, but I hope you like it!
1. Sake bottles: good microphone, bad air guitar when full of water.(just so you know.....it's irrevalent)
2. Sugar is one of your best friends
3. Although many people don't take them, PLEASE take baths/showers.
4. Sleep is not needed.
5. From Friday to Sunday, the convention will go on, even if the hotel/convention center closes the events.
6. You can rave with cell phones.(thank you Janicon)
7. The height of a convention is during the dealer's room hours of operation
8. By entering the con, you have become fair game to photographers regardless of what you're wearing(or not wearing)
9. Know what yaoi, yuri, and hentai are(the differences)
10. If you're a homophobe, you might not be too comfortable at a con(see above)
11. Watch you back for stalkers. *important
12. But it is OK to share food(just be extra careful)
13. Many fans claim to be rabid........some really are.
14. Dealer's Room= magical place where you can blow your life savings on stuff you probably don't need.
15. It's midnight Saturday. Overnight con-goers are most likely doing any combination of the following: 1. Raving, 2. Watching anime, 3. Getting drunk.
16. Conga/cha-cha lines form randomly, in addition to song/dance routines and photoshoots.
17. Peace and quiet is rare to find unless you have a hotel room, but even then it could be hard to find.
18. A knowledge of some Japanese words isn't necessary, but useful (kawaii, neko, ikai, konichiwa, baka......)
19. Say "I hate anime" loud enough. I dare you.....

wooot for your first convention. You can expect alot of cosplayers and ALOT of people. Some are really friendly, huggy or just loud and talkative and some are very reserved or rude and don't want to make friends at cons. It is really easy to spot the difference between them wink My biggest tip for your first convention is not to be afraid to do stuff!

Cosplaying is a great way to make friends and get conversations going, if you don't plan to cosplay then at least bring a camera to take some pictues and even start conversations with people dressed as a favorite character ... you already have common ground so go for it xD Go to panels, viewing rooms, events, photoshoots and gatherings if you can, and definately attend workshops. Cons give you all these fun events and it is definately worth checking them out at least. Then next time you will have a better idea of what you liked.

The biggest thing that throws off new congoers is lineups. Make sure to get your tickets early to avoid giant lines and don't jump for the dealer's room the second it is open. Any events you think there will be lines for you should get to early ... just so that you aren't disappointed later on.

Also don't get upset if you make a perfect schedual and it doesn't get followed or your friends ditch you for an event you don't like. Go with the flow, enjoy yourself even if it means that you might do something by yourself ... just remember to bring cellphones or walkie talkies to keep in touch with con-buddies!

It really depends on the convention. At one of the summer conventions by me a friend got completely sick because they went to a hotdog vendor. Supposedly some other people got sick too sad Mostly I stick to resturants though .... harveys or subway are by both major conventions by me and they havn't done me wrong.

Some food tips!
you should always go for food before lunchtime, otherwise you will get caught in the giant crowd of congoers going for lunch.

Food places are usually more crowded the closer they are to the convention or how expensive they are. Going down the street for food, or going to a sit-down restuarant (like swiss chalet or East side marios) will save you wait-time and will give you a better chance at a seat.

Always include food in your con budget. You need that energy to keep going and you don't want to give up food for manga .. .especially when your stomach is growling. If you think you might give up food for manga or a plushie or any impulse buy then pack a sandwhich, a bag of chips or something to keep you going.
