Welcome to Gaia! ::

Shady Dealer, or as i like to call "woman" irl. i blame people's flaming me in your pm box for your lack of detail in your original post.

Guys, all he's mainly looking forward to play on this is Fallout 3 and Eve online. As far as he's told me. And maybe have Sony Acid on it, which i run perfectly on my EEE pc. AND not to mention his severely limited budget.
So. All things said and done, your input was amazing, i must say. Well argued. But not really what he's looking for smile
but thanks for flaming about me guys wink it shows me you care.

now.
When ive done research when i had my old computer about game's CPU needs, i never took to consideration my actual unit was ganked in cache. so games didn't work. noting that this 2.6 will run most games at least in bare minimum as of last yearish is pretty darn good. especially since this guy is more roleplay and mmo than anything. and he uses VATS in FO3, so severe action isnt entirely needed.
the 4gb RAM will work especially with his ACID using. no pun intended. 320 GB harddrive will hold a handful of games and tons of music (both made and stored), as my 496gb used is holding about 30 games and like 10 days of music.
expandability isnt bad, if he needs to he can get a dirt cheap HD card from last year for like 30 bucks, as ive googled, he doesn't need much there.
and he gets a usb wifi reciever for like 30 bucks, since his house isnt that big and his comp will probably be right next to the transmitter. (through a single wall, mind you)
and it comes with keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor, which he needs since his fam only has one laptop, all for 500.

i think this is a good deal for him, all points considering.

now, mind you, i didn't find this rig he did. So if there's a better deal for him, chalk it up to him. I just confirmed itd be good for what he wants and maybe a little more. So remember that it was a collaborative effort, and i was the lazy one playing eve while he was doing the looking smile

edit: wow, really shady? Tags Would and work? razz rlyrly?

Are you a troll? What did waste your money on? A very good gaming computer with just the tower and contents inside that can be bought for $700-800. I bought my laptop for less than $1500 and it out performs most of my friends towers at gaming.
Nvidia GTX295 GPU, 6 GB of RAM, Intel Core i7 processor extreme edition, some sound card (didn't really care about it), an internet card from an external vendor, and 1TB of hard drive space. Also I do not believe that any laptop can hold a graphics card greater than 9600 or so and I can easily expand my RAM should it be necessary (which ATM it is not). And BTW just the core i7 extreme would cost more than $800 unless you have a REALLY good vendor.
Be educated, better graphics than what you have. In a laptop.

Thats better? More like equal. =p Also thats not a "laptop" perse , its more like a "suitcase". A big monstrous Suitcase.
This Would play Fallout 3 just fine for him. As far as I'm concerned its a much better deal then what he wanted.

What the hell are you talking about?

1 - I don't see anybody flaming him whatsoever, at all.

2 - The link he posted was broken at the time, so I was arguing that knowing the actual specs of the machine (and not just the brand name of the processor) was important, that we couldn't give a proper decision until we saw the full specs. The link leads to costo's site now, but it gives a site error half the time I try to load it.

No no no, if he wants to game it needs to have a decent video card.

Now that the link loads, I can see that computer has an integrated graphics card.
Checking on HP's site, I see it's a GMA 3100. That computer will not be decent for 3D gaming, no matter how good the processor is.

I didnt say they were flaming him, i said they were flaming ME being the guy he original guy he asked for it. But in his PM box.
Did not notice the integrated graphics bit, but like i said, 30 dollar card would work just fine smile

and Gin- it wouldn't be a good deal in the end, because he doesnt have a monitor, which would cost him another 100 at least, unless he wants a crap crt.
welllll i take that back, its a trade off i guess. it depends on whether he wants to buy a moniter or a graphics card. the acer might cost him a little more in the end, but it looks to be that much better than the costco one.
its up to him tho. one or the other, shady.
He needs a monitor too? D= No matter what its going to cost more , if he wants to play Fallout 3 he's going to need at least what I've shown.

And obviously a monitor to play it on.

Here is a good gaming computer, for less than $600. you will just need to already own a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Case $24.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154095
Power Supply $54.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182160
CPU $102.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680
Motherboard $69.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130228
RAM $79.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148262
Video Card $109.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161297
Hard Drive $47.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136098
Operating System $99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116677

Total $589.93
My com already holds over 500GB of data. That hard drive is not gonna cut it. That coupled with the fact that it's not a solid state will automatically make me say no to it. The video card is adequate for now, but will probably be out of date within the next few months. The RAM given would cause lag for some of the games that I play unless I would decrease the settings to a low setting. The lack of a good amount of PCI-e slots is a concern for me should I decide to further upgrade. The case and power supply are acceptable though and the fact that shipping is free in mainland US is a plus. However I live in the middle of the pacific and thus would have to pay the shipping charges and additionally there is no warranty included in the price. If I were to purchase a warranty for the parts, that would increase the price to over your predetermined $600 and the lack of technical support would discourage newbies from buying it. Should the com break down for whatever reason and they have no access to any technical support and no warranty, they would have to shell out another couple hundred to get someone to check it out for them. In the end, putting together a com from scratch and ordering a premade com really has no difference when it comes to price. It's just that you don't see the additional prices being added on should you order a premade one.
Stop pirating porn and music? This is not a thread about you but for "the shady dealer" This was for him not you.
If that was for him, why did you post all those links to random parts? If he doesn't know what specs he would need, what makes you think he'll be able to put his own com together? Additionally what makes you think I pirated anything? Just because I have a crapload of stuff on my com doesn't mean that it's all pirated. A lot of the things on my com are CD rips (of which I bought), games, downloads (Xfire, Steam, DirectX, AVG, etc.), programs, discounted from my school's store (photoshop, flash, premiere, fruity loops), and most of the rest are all saved files mainly from FL and premiere. Oh and most of the songs I get are from newgrounds made by the artists there and are therefore not illegal.

it's not fruity loops anymore, good sir. they changed it to FL studio. or did they change it back at some point that i don't know about?

honestly? its the same thing. doesn't matter. i call it fruity loops too. We all know what it means.

and Gin- well now you win, since shady's dad has an old monitor he doesnt use smile so looks like its settled! ish. i think he's decided on your make, but now deciding whether to look into plugging it into his HDTV in his living room or keeping it in his room with the monitor. he's leaning towards room due to privacy for recording and less noise from traffic, but honestly he can always record at my house if he's that hard pressed for noise and such.

For fallout 3 he wont need one any better then that. Its far better then the graphics in the PS3.

@ Hydralisk5201 : It should run fine on his HDTV. If the card doesnt have the correct output though, then he will want to get an adapter for it. And most HDTV's have an DVI port in it for the graphics card anyway since DVI is true HD and will be for a while. (At least , until they figure what resolution its maxed out at. So far they've pushed it past 2560 x 1600. Where as a HDTV is 1920x1080.)

exactly. like i said, the only reason why he has to pick between the two is whether or not he wants to record in his living room.
