Ok first of all if your computer was bought with Vista already installed it should already have a recovery console. Local Disk (D: ) is usually the recovery partition and it can be accessed from the start up when you first turn on a computer where you access your bios using function keys where I have seen it in every computer that was sent to me to repair or modify that had Vista. It should have a function key) designated for system recovery which is located at the very top of your keyboard. Factory recovery would be recommended and it will reformat your drive back to it's original settings when you first bought it no problems should occur. Probably the first action you should have done was to look for this.

Ok second thought I had is what if the discs you official got were possibly the wrong discs or did not run correctly maybe a disruption of any sort could have caused certain problems.. I doubt this is your problem. You probably have the correct discs.
