Ok, so I'm having problems with Windows Live on a Acer, Vista Desktop PC. When I try to sign in or do manage to sign, a window pops up saying the app crashed. Its gives me 2 options Close the Program and search for a solution online or to just close it.
Heres a screen shot of it. If someone could help me fix this, I'd really appreciate it.
If not then I need a downloadable substitute. Using meebo is kind of a pain, cause I forget that I'm talking to someone. I don't want to use yahoo as the contacts I talk to most, use msn messenger. And I like to show my icon in the message. I don't have yahoo messenger installed and then I'd have to add all those people onto it. And I don't think Windows Live mobile is compatible with Yahoo.

Have you tried reinstalling it?

If you want to try out other software however, i can recommend you is Digsby or Trillian. Both are multi-client IMs (meaning they can chat with other IMs such as AIM, MSN and MySpace). I been using Digsby and love it alot. You can not onyl chat with multiple IM clients, you can also get notifications of your myspace and facebook updates, twitter updates and e-mail. It's basically social networking straight from your desktop. IMs include facebook, myspace, msn, AIM and etc.

I just visited the trillian website and looks like you can do the same thing. so whichever one you want to go with is up to you.

Digsby - http://www.digsby.com/
Trillian - http://www.trillian.im/

If you like the group chatting and custom smileys then I'd go with trillian. I never used it so im not sure about the smileys, but I think you can.

Digsbay can't start group chats but your friends can invite you to group chat. You are also stuck with the smileys digsby has. However, digsby is still being developed more and hopefully will get more neat features. Which ever one you want to choose is up to you.

You can also try out these other alternate multi protocol chat IMs:
http://www.pidgin.im/
http://www.miranda-im.org/

These are just msn clones if you just want msn:
http://www.emesene.org/
http://www.amsn-project.net/index.php

You cann also try out these web based IMs, they are also multi-protocol IM software like digsby and trillian:
http://www.ebuddy.com/
http://www.meebo.com/

All of the above will get you connected back with chattin with your msn buddies, so pick the one you like the best and that will work with your pc.

Yes, I did repair. Didn't help, so I uninstalled it. Re-downloadloaded it and installed it again, but the problem persists.
And thanks. I heard of Trillian a couple years ago, but I couldn't remember the name.

You could always, you know, use that helpful "search online for a solution" button and see what it says. I use WLM on an Acer (extensa 5620) using Vista (updated). I'm not having problems.

Check your firewalls. Re-install it. Try running it as Administrator. Lots of different options are available. What firewalls and anti-virus do you have installed?

I did, but it doesn't fix it.

I'd recommend Pidgin, as it isn't chocked full with unnecessary skins, and it runs without horribly slowing down your computer like Trillian does.

Digsby is full of opt-out spyware and uses your internet connection to crunch data like a bot net when you aren't using it. I wouldn't recommend trying it out.

That is absolutely 100% false. Digsby is 100% adware free. And the second part youa re talking about has something to do with the research module. When your PC is not in use, digsby uses some CPU to compute some reaserch BUT it has low priority and you also have the option to have it off (either during isntallation or you can go to preferences to turn it off). For more information on the reaserch module, you can visit this page

Please check your information before bashing or providing false info on any software.

Trillian may or may not slow down your computer. IT depends on your system's resources and what you are doing and the settings on the program, same goes for ANY programs you use.

The "crapware-less" version is a new development. Digsby LOVED to use crapware, and still does. At least NOW they have the option to not install it, even if it's installed by default (for people who just keep clicking "next" until it's finished).

Pidgin is superior, it my eyes. I have Pidgin on my Nokia N810, which is running Maemo. It's a couple version behind, and it STILL allows me to talk to Yahoo Messenger users through Windows Live Messenger accounts (Yahoo functionality is still messed up--Yahoo changed things server-side to prevent non-yahoo clients from working. The latest Desktop Pidgin works, but my version is several version behind because no one felt like porting it), it's light, and it's not very intrusive. Also, open-source..

pidgin is good, I use the portable version. I only said what I said coz the previous psoter didn't provide alot of info like you did. I didn't mean to try and convert, I just liked digsby alot XD I so sorry if I sounded to covnertish. I also mentioned pidgin in my other post, and a few other IMs as well. I only talk alot about a software because I am most familiar with it.
