My It textbook stay every motherboard has a chipset. a chipset is one or more discrete integrated circuit chips that support the CPU's interfacing to all the other devices on the motherboard.

Is it separate in the sense that they are working separate or all parts located separately on the chipset?

Discrete pretty much is as simple as a "part", so without some other qualifier it doesn't mean much.

"Integrated circuit" means you have multiple transistors on one piece of silicon that's inside a package (the black plastic, ceramic, glass, etc. that you actually see).

Typically "discrete logic" refers to AND, XOR, etc. logic gates as individual integrated circuits, where you have a handful of logic gates in one chip.

You can also have "discrete transistor" circuits where individual transistors are on the circuit board as a part. Your motherboard might have some as part of the voltage regulators, because to handle a lot of power they end up being pretty large.

A "hybrid circuit" is a package that has inside multiple pieces of silicon. It's like taking a miniature circuit board and putting it inside one package that you solder to a bigger circuit board.
