Here's everything you should do, then.
A) Go to the temporary files, but instead of calling up the files,
reduce the amount of available space for them to almost nothing.
That will force the computer to dump a lot of what's in there now,
because there's no space for it.
B) Go to Programs-Accessories-system tools-disk cleanup,
and do a cleanup,
which will take a few minutes, from the sound of it.
C) Update your antivirus and run it.
D) Update your AdAware and Spybot:Search and Destroy and
run those, one at a time.
If you do not HAVE an antivirus, AdAware, or Spybot,

missing.
E) Make sure your firewall is up-to-date.
If you don't HAVE a separate firewall program
(Windows Service Pack 2 doesn't count),
check the sticky links here and do a free download of what you're
missing.
F) Go to
http://www.trendmicro.com and do an online virus scan
of your pc.
This will take an hour, so pack a lunch.
G) Defragment your computer.
H) Do a disk cleanup again, and select the option to delete all
the System Restores except the most recent one.
Restart your computer again.
Once you've done all that, you should notice a BIG improvement
in functioning.
The only other thing left to do is a scandisk, after that.
