this might be news to you, but macs aren't made to play games. you have the great pc for that.

My Quad-Core MacPro says very different thank you kindly. Seems to run all those lovely Cider warped games like Spore, City of Heroes, and EVE Online just fine thanks. CrossOver also seems to be moving forward very well at getting very popular games like Team Fortress 2 to run without needing to buy and install Windows as a secondary OS (did that too with a cheaper old copy of Windows XP just get some more games).

Seems to run just fine under Windows as well, although I do need to turn on my fan control software before booting into Windows.

My Macbook Pro would like to concur, and it enjoys playing games like Civ 4 which have been ported thanks to Aspyr, FOR 2 HOURS ON THE BATTERY ALONE!

....Someone please top that...

Oh don't say that because someone will bring a some custom model high-end notebook made by another hardware manufacture.

However the *lie* that Macs don't game is just that. With the switch to x86 chipset they can game just as well as Linux machines for many of the same reasons, and thanks to many of the same projects. The biggest block in Mac gaming came from the use of the PPC chipset instead of the x86.

BTW, how's the heat build up for your MBPro? The only thing Apple didn't get right was the default speeds on the fans for the Mac Pro, going for quitter over actual cooling. I've needed to use smcFanControl to bring those speeds up and keep my machines guts from running hot.

Whats the point of getting a Mac just to run Windows? You're paying double what a decent PC cost just to do the same damn thing.

Have fun at the Idiot Bar every week. Don't forget to be on time for your RESERVATION to be talked down to, otherwise they throw you into Purgatory, which is a row of 4 very crappy uncomfortable seats on the side.

most people prefere MAC these days because its looks so compact in space of your destop but nothing beats the original PC because every one had grown and had teeth on a regular PC

if you had $20000 to burn, you could get a maxed out mac pro. it will handle pretty much any game you can think of. (if you install another OS)

Yanno what man? this is what gets on my nerves when all someone asks: "What Mac/PC should i get for doing ______?" and all anyone says is "OH Mac/PC is so much better, blah blah blah blah blah. Idiot"
so layoff, i game quiet wonderfly on my Mac, and it may be expensive but mine is almost 5 years old and still runs perfectly, it also is one of the fastest gaming computers ive ever used.
now would you mind stoping the dissing?

The point is if the games he wants to play don't run natively on OSX, he could spend less money getting a PC.

OH and do try to get windows on it, you can play more games with windws and still keep the nice feel of a MAC laptop while you're at it

If hes trying to buy a laptop to play games, then he wouldn't be in the MacOSX that often anyways. So your point is moot.

IF he wants to play some SPECIFIC games like WoW and a couple others that have been ported to MacOSX then sure. Get a mac. Otherwise hes going to spend 3x the amount getting a laptop that hes going to spend most of the time in windows anyways.

@Yanicaru I'm glad you like your macintosh computer and the games you play on it satisfy you but you have a serious flaw in your arguement. You say you have had your mac for 5 years and its still working and is the great etc. You also say that its the most powerful gaming computer you ever used. My 80 year old grandma has a 1998 hp computer. She has dial up and everything. AND THAT is the most powerful gaming computer she has ever used. Your laptop is 5 years old. The integrated graphics card in my cheap laptop probably has a more powerful graphics card that your laptop does. PLENTY of users have laptops that last JUST as long as your laptop, and their not macintosh computers, and spent alot less than you did. As I said, I'm glad you like your laptop and I'm not hating on Macintosh. But please don't tribute all that to macintosh. They use the same hardware as Windows computers so that goes against your point of it lasting so long because its a macintosh computer. If the OP wants to get macintosh then let him. He just needs to expect to spend ALOT more money or just needs to buy a computer that runs Windows natively.

Yeah... that basically covered anything I was going to say.

It runs rather hot...

Which for me just means put it on a surface that doesn't keep in heat well... like the living room table. It also means free heat for the winter time (we're broke, and the less money being spent on gas the better...)

I've had a Windows OS all my life but I'm looking to buy a MAC. I need some help in choosing a good MAC OS for playing video games.

Don't you mean Windows XP or Windows Vista? Well anyway, if you want to get a laptop-get a macbook pro. If you want to get a desktop- get an IMac
