Welcome to Gaia! ::

Gah...can it be done?

I really like Linux and want to put it on my computer. The computer was going to be used solely for gaming, so I was going to have a guy i know load Windows XP onto it. But then I saw the Linux system and was all..'I WANT IT' i mean..it has penguins, come on..

..the few places i've looked havent been real clear in answering my question, "Is Sims2 compatible with Linux?"

Your help would like..be really appreciated. I'll give you a cookie ^_^
Please dont bump, as this is a slow moving forum, and it isnt needed.

Sims 2, as well as any other Windows specific application, is not going to run on Linux without the aid of an emulator of some sort.

Try that. 3nodding

Thanks and sorry...havent used this forum ever..<<'
No, the Sims 2 is not compatable with Linux. Not even through WINE or Qemu. If you want to play Sims 2, use Windows.

Emulating the Windows environment through Linux is not a very good idea. It runs much slower than the actual Windows OS does, and is impractical for gaming.
Dual boot the system.

Im sorry, but I fail to see how that link deals with anything mentioned so far. Mind going into a bit more detail?
He is correct. Go with TransGaming's WineX. That's why MandrakeSoft sold a Gamer's Edition of Mandrake Linux that came bundled with The Sims. Because it ran.
Yeah your DVD drive may not even be compatible with Linux, it probablly is. Anyways you mean tell me you want linux JUST because of the penguins!? eek

First of all, did you see skys post?

Second of all, Sims != Sims 2.
He said Wine. I'm saying WineX. The source trees are varied.

I understand version changes, thanks. I am using The Sims 1 as a proof of concept. I already have The Sims 2 running on my system thanks to the latest WineX CVS snapshot.
