regedit.exe questions regarding mouse [sorta solved; thx]

my mouse has gone slow since summer and i posted in another thread and learnt the problem can't be solved

however, i hadn't given up and found the mouse section in regedit.exe with different items for me to change.
the tutorial on microsoft.com says to set MouseSensitivity to 1 for double speed and i did so but it hadn't explained MouseThreshold1 and MouseThreshold2 except that MouseThreshold1 has to be smaller or equal to MouseThreshold2 to do anything (at least not clear enough for me to understand).

so i want to ask:
what exactly do they change?
how do they function?
how much difference is "1" in each setting?

i am using windows vista home basic SP2 if that information is required
please tell me if anymore information is needed

You don't need to change mouse settings in the registry. Just leave the keys as it is.

Go to

Start (Windows Orb)>Control Panel>Mouse

Let me know if it works smile

Could also be that your mouse needs a clean. Is it a ball or optical mouse?

a little more background information:
i'm not a complete computer-illiterate person and i know enough to handle most basic and some intermediate stuff.
as in my last post this summer, i said my mouse was working at my desired speed and it just started to slow down after a week or so. i couldn't refund it so decided to live with it. i discovered this registry changing thing and it kinda worked (i switched it from 6,10 to 15,20) coz it was noticably faster. so i want to know more about it and see if i could adjust it to exactly my comfortable speed.

i tried that of course, it was dragged to max speed and "enhance pointer precision" is checked (i'm not going to uncheck it even though it might be faster, i need that precision). so is there another way? particularly some more information in the registry part?

my mouse is totally clean (to the eye), and it is a wireless optical mouse.

try cleaning out any temporary files on your computer and eliminating any unnecessary programs from starting up on start up. That cures about 90% of responsiveness issues. * others occur because something is actually wrong *

yes, i use CCleaner regularly and almost never keep unwanted programs.
and "something is actually wrong" as in....?

and can we please go back to my question, what are MouseThreshold1 and MouseThreshold2? please answer my questions in the first post, thank you

Sounds to me like your doing a simple task the most complicated way possible. Just use the control panel. Nearly any useful mouse setting that can be changed in the registry can be changed using control panel.

maybe i haven't provided enough information as this is already covered in my last post; which is my fault for not posting it back here

the mouse seems to be wearing off and as in an above post, the control panel mouse setting is already at max. the only way i could think of to make it faster is the registry



and please, my questions are:

If you have a new mouse then its defective. If you adjusted the speed and sensitivity and you've tried everything you can think of then it's prob just the mouse. Or you can put something under it. Like a mouse pad razz

I have a friend that has an old crappy mouse and she refuses to think it's the mouse even though I just got one for my birthday and its works perfectly on her computer
