All right. I ran a full scan just yesterday and had no problems. Everything was clean. Yet about 30 minutes ago I was here at Gaia and went to send reply to a PM and got this* which I assume is just a Ad-Aware thing since I never got such messages until I tried their new toolbar thing with their latest update. I then said let me make sure nothing new has invaded my system and went to Hijackthis using the link provided in the sticky here. I loaded Hijackthis to my comp and went to run a scan that would save log and got this message. Does this mean my current [read: Windows Live OneCare...this one doesn't seem to want me to use anything else...came with laptop & Ad-Aware] -most likely failed- virus scan software is failing me and my computer is infected?

*Note: I checked off that little box to the right so I could reply to the person's message.

Edit: It ran but told me this.

The first screenshot tells me you got what is known as a redirector virus.

The second one tells me that the infection(s) block off your hosts file in order to prevent editing the Hosts file to stop the redirect. A lot of viruses redirect you from antivirus sites as a symptom and as a means of preventing their removal.

Read the FAQ and then run through it without missing a step. If a particular step confuses you, do not be afraid to ask. I would rather explain something then find that a vital step was missed. I think many of the regulars would agree with me but I won't speak for them.

What does it mean if AVG gives a message stating "Multiple Threat Detection" from firefox.exe.

It was listed under 'Infection' as Virus found Script/Exploit and showed as Infected in red. I removed them, but going by the definition below isn't it like saying my computer is a walking open cut even though I have a firewall, AVG, and SUPERAntiSpyware?

The Script/Exploit is not a virus, is it a heuristic scan warning, that there is a file on your computer which is able to use a security hole. It is necessary for such a program to have rights to change the Windows registry settings, and the program gets these rights by a dirty trick. This script does not contain any destructive action. If such a file
