Does anyone know the exact risks involved in Megaupload and Rapidshare?

Megaupload uses a bunch of risky advertisers - lots of pop-ups and pop-unders and a high risk of virus attacks and deception ... never mind what might be lurking in the files.

With Rapidshit Rapidshare, the big risk is in the files' contents. It could be a virus or anything else. It might not even be what it claims to be. It's also the target of a lot of phishing - if you get a premium account, there's a very high probability that you'll find yourself clicking through to a site that will steal your RS login information and could ultimately get you in trouble.

Dude....

I downloaded most of my hentai from Megaupload and didn't get a single virus.....

But that was before X-death's site went down, and all of them were uploaded by him....

In any case, whatever you're downloading or uploading, you're better off using torrents for. The limits on RS/MU are just fail.

This is true but some people (Myself included) cant download torrents due to router limits or firewalls. i use Rapidshare for most of my albums and then every few days i run an Ad-Aware scan and a Malwarebytes anti-virus scan. both are free and have found all my viruses. so whereas you dont need a program like BitComet to download torrents, its still an option.

I prefer megaupload. So far I have gotten no virus, and there's no after-download wait.

>_<

Megaupload is more prone to viruses than Rapidshare but Megaupload is still strong. VERY strong. Both are extremely reliable, I'm just saying that Megaupload is slightly weaker. And Megaupload is associated with a lot adult advertisements and downloading from Megaupload servers take wayyy too longer than Rapidshare.

My profile is awesome.
Go look at it biggrin
I love random comments and PMs from pretty people cus I'm shallow biggrin
What risks? They're just file sharing sites.

With MU, as I said, Ads. Lots of them. Most of them malicious, and some of them probably have embedded malware. This is the kind of place where Vundo gets around.

With RS, again, the risk is what's in the files: You don't know what's in them because RS doesn't tell you. They could be ANY goddamn thing. Same for MU.

idk megaupload is faster but rapidshare is more safe

if neither of these what would be a good file sharing site?

what do you want to do?

Are you looking for a place to download? (I'm not going to list any because piracy is bad)

Are you looking for a place to upload? If so:
What kind of files?
How big?
Do you want to share it with a few friends or with anyone and everyone?
Does it need to be free?

Handy Definitions:
Ricer: Noun. Offensive Slang. Used as a derogatory term for a Gentoo user.
Red Firefighting Spiders: Our omnipotent internet overlords.

If you're looking to upload, I can suggest Box.net. There's another I've looked at that was nice, but the naem escapes me at the moment.

Random PMs will be deleted and senders added to my ignore list. That includes posters in threads I participate in. If I don't know you, ignored. Period.

jDownloader makes the file size and time restrictions essentially null and/or void, without violating any site's ToS and without using stolen private accounts.

On that note, it isn't their (RS/MU/Etc.) job to make sure the content is clean of malicious software.
I prefer MU because their Premium accounts have more proverbial "bang" for what you pay.
