PORT ERROR! IP PROBLEMS need assistance

i need some help with my laptop, it keeps giving me a prt error whenever i try to release and renew my ip, do you think you could help me out (expert advice please)

Well, wireless or wired, what OS, do you have an internet connection?

wired, yes to internet service, and WIN XP proffesional/SP2

dialup. i have had it worked before, but i tried every thing and i need help

Dialup you usually can't release and renew your IP without disconnecting and redialing with the service. The ISP gives you your IP everytime you dial into their net.

i have an old school aol version o n mine and it gives you the ip that is standard with the access number, it doesnt change unless you change access numbers
