When I put games into my PS2 it starts up like normal, but if it let the game play then it goes to browser without me doing anything. It says the disc is there, but everytime I try to start the game it just goes back to browser. The games do work sometimes though.
2 things I can think of.

1. Make sure that the cds aren't all scratched up.

If they are go to the sink and put toothpaste on it.

The spread it all over the cd and then wash it off. Make sure that its not that type of toothpaste where it has beads or a sand texture to it because then that can cause more scratches.

The toothpaste will help to fill in some scratches. Sometimes this even works for Audio cds that skip and stuff.

The second option is to clean the lens on the PS2. I have no done this but I hear a lot that that can be the cause to so you will have to look that up online.
MOST of the disc read errors on PS2 are caused by lens misalignment. Lens misalignment is usually caused by excessive DVD playback, or excessive "blue-disc" play. The PS2 usually reads games counter-clockwise, but DVDs play clockwise, and "blue bottom" discs can overwork the lens cartridge.

Buy a DVD lens cleaner first. Make sure it's not a CD lens cleaner, as they can be quite a bit more abrasive. I doubt it'll work, but it sure beats sending your PS2 somewhere for repair and paying $50 to find out that the repair guy just ran a lens cleaner.

If the lens cleaner doesn't work, go through your games. Try to boot "blue-bottom" games and regular games to see if the console has any preference. Do the same with DVD movies. If one type of disc loads successfully, and the other types don't, that's knowledge you'll want to pass on to whomever you find to realign your lens.
If you're looking for a temporary solution just to get a game or two playing until you can find a repair person who can realign the lens, here's a quick fix:

Using this solution may get your game playing, but it can also misalign your lens even more. If repair is your solution, it won't be any harder for the repair person to fix, but if you don't get it fixed soon, it's likely the PS2 will begin only playing games with scotch tape on them.
