Welcome to Gaia! ::

Just wondering, how do I know if my computer is compatible with one? Is there any way I can find out for future reference?
If you have a PCI express slot, you can use the card. If not, nope sorry.
Gotch ya. Thanks

I'm almost 100% sure you don't have one since they have only been on the market for a few weeks.

There is no point in getting a PCI-e enabled motherboard and a PCI-e 3d card yet since the current generation of 3d cards are barly faster than there AGP 8X counter parts. I'd a couple more years and the PCI-e will be worth getting.
I wouldn't go out and get a PCIe board just yet, either. Early adopters get ******** in the end.
And besides that all.....PCI-e 8x is equivalent to AGP 8x in speed. Which is allready available for graphic cards. So that would not be a wise choice, if you wanted to do it ONLY for graphics.

If I hold off til 06 to get a new comp, would PCI-Express be a good deal by then?

I wouldn't wait that long. But it is an alkward stage to get a new computer. at the moment you've got transition into alot of things whitch are in there early stages.

64bit
PCI-E
DDR2 For motherboards.
DVD-RW are coming into fashion.

I suppose its always like this in the computing world but it seems somwhat worse right about now

I want oget a PCI slot for my pc..I'm stuck wiht..I think its called AGP?

its this crappy integrated crap..al stuck on the motherboard..shitty chips, and not worth the material they are made from.

I would wait if I was you as well. no sense in getting one if you don't even have the slot for it.

Possibly, since we've been sticking with standards for so long. By then, intel should be pumping out a desktop 64 bit processor, 2 GB should be standard in mst Pc's, and the newer graphics cards might be riding a high bandwidth PCI-E bus. Or a new standard, but I doubt that. AGP 8x should tide you over until then, unless you're a really hardcore gamer. wink

That's because PCIe is the biggest architechtural change to PCs since 1992.
