I'm thinking iether I get her a laptop, or a flat screen T.V for her room.

I am your typical idiot, I don't know name brands or what to look for, the pros and cons of the electronics.
I'm hoping you guys can help me get some insight on this, so that when I walk into an electronic store or walmart they aren't sitting there and scamming me out of my money for some crappy hunk of junk.

No favourite brand. Just depends on the performance & quality of the product.
LCD is Liquid Crystal Display. LED is Light Emitting Diode.
LED is better than LCD (in short).
Ask about a specific product please. There are tons of laptops & T.V's. We can't give Pros & Cons of each of them. Be specific with a model.

I'd recommend just about any Vizio in your price range. I have no complaints about them.
