Upon clearing out unwanted programs from my laptop, I discovered that there are several instances of Microsoft visual C++ and MSXML. Being that I'm not too tech-savvy, I would like some input on which (if any) of these I should remove?

This is not actually Visual Studio but files that allow applications build with Visual Studio to run on your computer.
They don't take up that much space either, so i don't really see the point in removing them.
If you want to remove them anyways remove the oldest entries. If any program needs them you'll probably get an error message stating something 's missing. You can download them at Microsofts homepage in that case.

As for MSXML, looks like patches, but i'm not sure. I wouldn't recommend removing them.

NONE of them. The moment you remove even one of them, several of the programs you probably use will stop working.

Yea, those packages are common dependencies for software compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio. The MSVC++ Redistributables are particularly annoying because you have to have the exact version that the dependent application was compiled against, just having the latest copy installed won't work.
