Welcome to Gaia! ::

My 5+ year old router is starting to crap out, so im looking to buy a new one soon but not sure which are the better ones. Hopefully someone savy with these can help guide me to a good one, my selection is limited to what dell.com has.

Not sure what features to look for, not looking for anything fancy just something thats fast. Speed is my first priority, dont care if its wireless or not im old school i run everything wired anyway.

This is what they have.

Help! Thanks in advance

Just for refrence i have cable internet (comcast) and this is what i have atm

what do you mean "crap out"?
is the router overheating or the adapter plug overheating?
is the modem not working or the router not working?

speed is limited by the type of wire and router but 100 Mbps is good enough since comcast doesn't reach that high of speed.

It seems all the same to me but I would get something from cisco or linksys, I don't really like the GUI setup page the netgear routers have. If you do get a new router you should also get new cables like CAT5e cables.

if you have a lot of money you could get fiber optics for the wiring of the house, router and network card.

Every once in a while ill lose the internet, i go check it and its really hot so i unplug everything let it cool then plug it back in.Thanks for letter me know about the cables, ill make sure to pick some up too. So from the list is there any that stick out to ya?
Bump, any suggestions?
If you don't care if it's wireless or not, then virtually any router will be just fine. Most people don't pay for higher performance packages with their ISPs, and even entry level routers can handle 100 Mbps over ethernet, so it really doesn't matter. One that isn't broken essentially.

Getting a router with gigabit ethernet would be my only real suggestion in that regard. Offers some sort of future-proofing as far as bandwidth is concerned.

Bleh... I had the same thing happen to me for months with the same generation of Linksys router as well. @_@ The newer models are probably much better now.

Also, how much are you willing to spend on a new wireless router?
