My Logitech A-0374A USB Headset stopped working correctly today
(and the tech support for it is currently down).

The headphones refuse to play sound despite the fact that they are on and the computer does recognize that they are plugged in. Sometimes sound does manage to get through. It works in both ears but the sound is similar to garbled mono.
(Ex. I only hear choppy background vocals/instruments while listening to a song.)

My speakers, mp3 player ear-buds, and an older set of headphones work fine with the computer. However they all are being plugged into the green headphone jacks while my headset uses the USB ports.

I think that the USB ports on my computer might be part of the problem. My headphones will not work on any of the 6 ports (2 front panel and 4 back panel). I tested the ports with my flash drive, mp3 player, and camera. The mp3 player and camera will both work on the front panel. However the flash drive only works on the back panel.

Help?

I didn't really feel like explaining fully, so here's some pictures:

First, scroll over your speaker icon in the bottom right corner (default):

Right click the speaker icon, and scroll too Playback Devices. Click it:

Go over your speakers, and any other outputs other then the headset, and disable them by right clicking them:

Ah, I forgot to mention that I have Windows XP Pro.
Sorry about that.

The closest thing that I could find to what your pictures display is the "Sounds and Audio Devices" within my Control Panel.
However, the tabs are different, and I can't find anything that allows me to disable my other audio devices in it.

Have you tried using the headphones on another computer?

Easiest way to check for a problem on your USB ports is to plug in another USB device to see if it functions correctly. Another fairly simple way is to look into device manager.

Start > Right click My Computer > Manage > Device manager

Here there will be a spanning tree menu. You'll want the one at the very bottom titled "Universal Serial Bus controllers" You may also want to look into the "Sound, video, and game controllers" tree. You will know if there is a warning or an error by a small icon. A yellow yield sign for a warning or a red 'X' sign for an error.

The only other computer that I have at my disposal is quite a bit older than mine and has never been able to recognize my headset.

As I stated in my first post I have already tried plugging in other devices(see it for details).

Also the device manager shows no signs of errors in neither the USB controller section nor the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers section.

Sounds like you're headphones are dying... or at least make sure that all the connections are snug and there is no faults in the wire..
I would say to try it somewhere else. but I don't think it's you're computer causing the issue here..

That's what I was afraid of. I've only had the headset for 2 months.
Eh, I'll see if I can exchange them for another pair.
