My laptop was fine until today when all of a sudden the screen and icons got glaringly bright colored. I've already tried fixing contrast and adjusting brightness but it doesn't work.

I have an HP Pavilion. Windows 7 Premium. Any ideas what could be wrong? confused
Is it possible if you could take a screen shot of your problem(s)?

This is what my icons look like on the desktop bar (with a darker background), if I put it any brighter I can't see them.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

And the screen itself when I'm on gaia or any other site:

It's beyond too bright. I'm not even sure what could have caused it.
those look normal here.....which tells us the issue isn't the icons, but your screen.

It's going out.

Yeah, I figured as much after doing research that something's wrong with the screen or backlight.
Jesus, what levels of contrast is it at? Replacing it with a new matching model screen is going to be a problem.

What video card do you have?

All the way at the bottom of contrast. It makes no sense, right?
It shouldn't be that bright. neutral
Uhhh, I'm not 100 percent sure what video card I have. I'd have to dig up the box and look. And yeah, I talked to the place I bought it from and they said they'd have to send it out to get repaired and diagnosed, etc.
