KeyBoard & Mouse Problem

err... well i just restarted my computer for the first time [its window xp] but when the "welcome" screen comes up.. my keyboard and mouse wont work xD i tried replugging it and restarting it but no matter wut i do.. it STILL WONT WORK!!

Do you have an extra keyboard or mouse? If so, you could try using those, and see what happens.

yeah.. i am using a different computer >_> i tried that, i used my bro's keyboard and mouse but it give the same results xP

Try this:

When Windows XP is booting up, press F8. If a screen doesn't come up, just keep hitting F8. (This is assuming your keyboard is working before windows boots.) If a screen comes up, try booting into safe mode, and see if it works from there.

It might be that the ports aren't being supplied power or that they are dead. What connectors does your mouse and keyboard use? USB or PS/2?

Try a friends keyboard or another keyboard/mouse. If it still doesn't work then its screwed. Try using a USB keyboard/mouse instead of a PS2 port one.

It might be the case that the keyboard and mouse drivers have been deleated by something possabley a gremlin or virus... you will either need the windows XP installation disk to boot off it or if your hardcore use a win98 startup disk as this certainley has the drivers on it and you will need to copy the driver files from the disk into the windows directory.

the files you are looking for are

keyboard.sys
Mouse.Ocx (or something)
