Welcome to Gaia! ::

A while back my laptop got hit with trojans. McAfee kept popping up with these weird file names and notifying me that it was quarantining one after another. Some weren't and I tried to track them down manually to delete. After battling a few weeks with things changing names etc, all scans I ran whether with McAfee or otherwise didn't turn up any threats - just the quarantined stuff.

I'm taking this as it's safe to log onto email at least. I don't feel safe placing orders, etc. My friend refuses to open any email I intentionally send from any email I have used on this laptop. I'm told I should just spend the money to get geek squad to clean up my computer. But, that's a lot of money when I am beyond broke. Any advice?
We have a sticky written for situations like this.

A single virus scanner running normally can't catch everything.
The sticky lists more free tools, and the proper ways to use them.
I did use them. My pal is paranoid. His deal is that he thinks my laptop is still infected but none of the scans can pick it up. I was wondering if it's a possibility since he's starting to make me doubt everything.

If he used them he'd be clean. or you would have posted the logs here. neither of those happened, so he didn't do it.
You did not follow all of the instructions in the sticky. All of the instructions are important.

We can tell if you haven't done something the sticky suggests.

It would save you (and us) a lot of trouble if you just did what the sticky says to do. We will wait.
