A lot of the regulars are programmers. What are your questions?
just ask the questions in the thread, using PMs for help is discouraged, for quite a few reasons.

and yes there are a few programmers here, and some of them even do it for a living, as well as for fun.

Nice. There's some questions to attempt to get a glimpse first-hand of how computer programmers who are employed (whether in a small or large workplace) feel towards their workplace.

In example, do they feel like their job's duties reflect the original job description or are there times that they do things beyond that. Also, do they overwork? Are they satisfied? How do they feel towards their managers? (if they were non-c.s majors vs c.s. majors).

Lastly, what sort of incentives (granted the workplace create them) would motivate them or make them more satisfied in their jobs? (like, volunteering as a team in the workplace, having mini-fridges, pot-lucks, video game nights, etc.)

Agreed. Wasn't planning on doing them, but I was wondering how many of them would be active in night. The questions are the same however. What sort of things motivate you more in the workplace? What sort of things discourage you? etc.

That is still fine. Then my question may also apply to you, as a computer programmer, or even an industrial hardware, does it matter that you get along with your co-workers? What motivated you back then to do a good job? Money, recognition, etc? What makes you happy ?

Wow. What a very happy answer smile . So a challenge then you like? Puzzles? Or is it the stability of the job market to be a computer programmer?

I never worked as a programmer, not officially any way.
I took the education, not programmer but some of the steps there, different system of education, because it spoke to me, I liked the mental side of programming, and how the "code works".
after that I didn't know what I wanted so I sort of drifted from work to work, and finally a chemical plant took me as a technician, and mixer, for a few years.
after that I drifted again, now I work with the hardware of industrial machinery. (vague, I know but they company I work for try very much to cover it all)
