Welcome to Gaia! ::

i don't think i'm allowed to actually talk about my situation on here for legal reasons i guess, i was wondering if anybody who knows anything about DVD burners could possibly help me

it's not really about the illegal matter itself, it's pretty much about my DVD burner and how it burns certain types of DVD's

basically, my DVD's are crapping out after like 2 months of use and hardly any damage at all and i want to know if it's the quality of my burner or the quality of the DVD's

It's against the rules here to request PMs, by the way.

oh okay, i'll remove it, either way, my question still stands
what brand of DVDs are you using?
and, i don't need specifics, but whereabouts do you live? Humidity can kill disks....

i'm from canada B.C, it's not really humid here, they're also kept inside a drawer most of the time
they've been slightly handled by nothing more than any other movie/video game i own

the discs are Maxell DVD RW +DL 8X, they're a common DVD maker here
the only thing i'm unsure about is my DVD drive, it came with my computer, it's probably not the best DVD drive, it's from 2006 though.
would check for a firmware update for the drive from their site, and also maybe think of getting a newer drive.

would you say that could be the potential cause for it? like if the DVD drive were to be crappy, would that result in burned DVD's with a really low life expectancy?

i don't mind getting a new DVD drive as long as i know it's gonna fix it

Manufacturers claim that CD-R and DVD-R discs have a shelf life of 5 to 10 years before recording
dvd's will last less than 5-10 years

try burn at the lowest speed and not do any memory intensive things on the computer that will screw up the burn. Do you check the that the data is okay after the burn?
