Well you need to learn html or use a html editor but learning it is much much better in the long run even if you use an editor.

Webmoney has a lot basic html stuff

Then after you have a webpage made you need a host to put it, which you can some find free ones or pay for it.

Something like geocities
http://www.geocities.yahoo.com/

Personaly I pay for my hosting, you get much more for it. My host.

But paying for it generly requires you to have your own domain name

But that maybe a little to invovled. I'll stop now.
Most ISPs provide a few meg of webspace. If you aren't making a huge graphic intensive site, you can use that to host your Web site.

You could host your own. An old P2, P1, or 486 box running Linux and Apache on a decent size hard drive and connected into your router switch can be set up as an easy to maintain Web server.

In any case, your actual web site consists of a page 'index.htm' or 'welcome.htm' and the graphics, scripts, and subpages it links to. These can be made with a composition edittor like Sausage Software's HotDog, Netscape Composer (or Mozilla Composer), or GlobalScape CuteHTML. Together with the graphics and other support files, the HTM (or HTML) files composing your Web site are uploaded to the host with an FTP client like WarFTP, WSFTP, or CuteFTP.

I use www.brinkster.com They have a small google advert banner at the top and that's it. I don't like geocities for the fact that

1. No way to put pages I make on there I have to make them online
2. Their adverts get in the way of the site.

Angelfire's popups suck. Same with Tripod. I think they also have no FTP uploader
Most free servers support FTP... You just need a client. In the olden times, Netscape had an upload command in the file menu if you connected to an FTP server.
try XANGA
i use geocities.com (more like geoshities) but i want to change soon. if you do use geocities then i sugest using pagebiulder not sitebiulder. personaly it's not that bad jsut it doesn't like HTML, or any files that you upload other than pics.
Don't laugh, but Neopets is a good starter place. I'm sure you've heard of it.
