Wow, I got hit by this too recently... But as you see I'm on the air... Free of the virus... I recommend a wipe and reload of the Operating System as anti-malware doesn't seem to be enough to fix the problem in its entirety, even if it removes something. This redirect virus seems completely nullified and obliterated by a format of the hard drive. Best to backup everything you can, and if you don't know how to wipe and reload ask someone to help you. If you know how and don't have the proper disc that came with your system well things get tougher... Thankfully for me I was able to download and burn an ISO to a DVD for a system I legitimately own, Windows XP: Media Center Edition. If downloading a disc image isn't an option and you have no one close enough who can help you out for free then it's time to see if you can afford to pay a visit to an experienced technician at a local computer repair shop.

And I should of had Avast AVG [Anti-Virus Guard] installed. Don't trust Windows Defender guys, it's a lot worse and doesn't protect you like it should. By the way, it's not Google's fault at all, this Happili redirect virus has no affiliation with Google.com in any way, shape, or form (I come to this conclusion because it was my Yahoo.com searches that were being redirected because it). It is some idiot virus maker with no real life and too much time on their hands. They need to be silenced.

As we know symptoms of the virus include redirection, blocking of your internet to anywhere at all, and that's all I know. However, I noticed with AVG's shields up, internet becomes browse-able once again, but the redirect virus still tries to hijack your search entries. With the shield disabled and the virus still on your machine, internet is completely down on the infected system.

I hope this helps you, troubled one. ;3

Do NOT, EVER suggest formatting as a first option, and do NOT tell someone do "download a windows ISO", because nine times out of ten, that's illegal.

No. I used it after I scanned my laptop... I had a report to do.
And how do I run combofix if my internet is not connected and screwed up?

Get Combofix on another computer that does have a connection to internet, transfer it to a USB stick and port it to the non internet connected computer.

I'm way ahead of you on that, I took a class in CompTIA A+ which means am certified to repair a PC's hardware and software. So what you said is true most of the time; I had no option however but to format my drive. If you can save a PC without formatting then that's a better option than formatting, only as a last resort which I had to do. I wouldn't recommend wipe and reload as a first option (I apologize that I didn't have a better way to resolve my issue). And I don't recommend downloading an ISO for a system you don't legally own an Operating System for. That can get you in major trouble. It's better if you have the disc already. However, as I said, downloading a copy of my OS's disc and formatting the disk was my only option... I will agree 9 times out of 10 downloading images that you do not have is illegal, I wasn't telling her to do this.

As for ComboFix I had no luck with it... If there's a better way to fix without a format and something better than ComboFix, then someone please correct me further. I'm willing to learn how to repair this sort of virus issue in a way that doesn't require formatting the hard drive.

As I said, only if you own the Operating System you are downloading for. If you download an OS for, say, Mac OSx 10 and you own a Windows Vista, then this would be illegal. If say you had a Windows XP Home and download an image for Windows XP Home, then this is legal (only if it uses your key [usually on your tower if you own a dektop, or on the bottom of your netbook/laptop).

Then I'm guessing you're not against pirating stuff you already own. It's not really piracy, but you know what the RIAA would say. "You lost the disc, you must buy a brand new one"

I am not for pirating... As for buying a new disc that is not an option for my machine as it is Windows XP Media Center. They do not sell this disc anymore, and even if they did, then where online?... My point exactly, I have my key, and I have a backup disc.

Now shall we please stay on topic and remember that this is not to help me but the above person? I do not wish to be the center of attention here. Besides, there is a difference. Pirating is when you steal something you do not own. I am simply downloading a backup of a disc I lost because they are no longer in stock. The RIAA can tell me to get a new disc all they want, but now it is an impossibility unless... Again, let us not focus on me and forget about it. If I am to be looked upon as hacker and a pirate then I shall decline to help any further problems or make any further submissions. That is not fair to me when I am only trying to help.

You misunderstand. I'm not accusing you of piracy and hold a similar opinion myself. I just pointed out that the corporations responsible are assholes and there's the whole "HURR YOU DON'T OWN A COPY YOU OWN A LICENSE TO MAYBE USE THE COPY IF WE FEEL LIKE IT" shtick.

Ironically, I'm listening to this right now:

I appreciate that you do not view me as such, thanks. Unfortunately I am out of ideas as to fix this problem. Please, if anyone else can fix the problem, do give better solutions than I am able to.

(And Weird Al is funny, yes. I know and have heard a few of his songs.)

What is this, a d**k wagging contest? You're A+ certified. Good or you.
You should know better then.

Most rogue infections can be solved using TDSSkiller, combofixfix, roguekiller, or in cases of a bootkit, gemini.iso from trend micro. fun them all from safe mode and it has yet to fail me smile
