why does it need to be free? There is really almost nothing out there that is any bit good that is not paid when it comes to drawing

I use photoshop elements 6.0 which works great for me and it came free with my tablet. So, if you were to buy a wacom tablet for drawing you could get it free or if not it's still much less expensive than CS3

GIMP is a great tool, so is paint.net, inkscape and etc. I am only familiar with windows software and the ones I've used. And there is no such thing as a drawing software that will make beautiful art for you, that part is up to you. And you do no need to be cheap to try out the free and open source software such as GIMP. PHotoshop is good an all, but like hell I want to waste over 600 bucks just to make sigs, or draw some digital art, I am no artist or professional graphic designer. The final product of the "art" is up to the artist him/herself and what tools he/she wants and how he/she uses in their pipeline is their choice. |
