10:20" Deleted Webroot Firewall, restarted, and everything seems to be working. For some reason the firewall is not compatible with the antivirus. >< But HALLULUJAH! *sobs*
9:22 Well I just installed over the one i couldn't get off and the java test+ one school site worked until I closed and reopened the Explorer browser.
sad
I was going to try uninstallng and redownloading off cnet, but now it's not letting me uninstall

I have done everything I can to enable it. Based on that and the fact that for some my internet connectiond settings" don't allow a n online download, as well as looking up info on the Java site I'm 90% sure it's a proxy issue. I don't know anything about getting proxy information that would make java applets work though.
Also, when I try to open it either as admin or not from the start menu, a command window pops up and then disappears before I can read it. ><
Is the Java Plug in control panel different from the Java control panel?

I just have, an d only able to access the java control panel shortcut on my desktop, and it looks different
Also, sun Java does not show up in explorer under the advanced tab, although the Java site says it's successfully installed
09/03:
I have downloaded the Mozilla browser, but In the Java control panel, it won't let me enable it for Mozilla, just gives an error message saying "Cannot change browsers; please make sure Firefox is correctly installed and/or you have permission to change the settings."
I'm already logged in as the administrator.
College tech support was of absolutely no help; all they did was send me a link to the updated version that I'm pretty sure I mentioned I already had.
I have Windows Vista, and Internet Explorer 7 (which can't be switched for another browser due to the requirements of my online class).
I have deleted and reinstalled Java recently (although I had to do the offline installation since it said some thing about a problem with my internet connection and to check the settings. ) I do have the most recent version of Java installed.
A few months ago it was working fine, but now I cannot see the applets running on the Java site itself or sites like Eduspace. I have checked several times, and it is enabled for Internet Explorer.
The other method of checking involveds finding "Java" on the ADvanced tab in Internet Options, but there is no Java related thing there to check or uncheck. My computer detects that Java is indeed installed, bu tfor some reason my course site Eduspace can't seem to detect it, and no applets work. ( I get an empty box with a little red x in the corner)
Does anyone know how to fix this? It's been driving me nuts.
