Welcome to Gaia! ::

Hey guys, I got a question. Is there an easy way to find some online game server's IP address? I want to test my ping, since I seem to lag a little bit too much. I know how to perform a ping on Windows and everything, but I don't know how to actually ping a server.
what game are you trying to get the IP from?

It's called LaTale, being hosted by OGplanet.
For whatever game you want to know the ip of, just run netstat from the command line while you're connected and look for an appropriate connection.

Thanks! I will try that out now.
No problem, let me know if you have any complications with it smile
netstat -n will get you directly the IP, instead of the hostname.

Run it after you exit the game and compare the lists. One of the IPs missing from after is the server one.

Ahh yeah, haven't used the windows version for a long time, forgot you had to do add that. The *nix version displays IP as well as hostname by default.

ahh that didn't make sense. How do you find the IP number?
If you come back, let me know if the ping you get is the same as the ping it gives you when you start the game. Everyone is lagging to hell and back but I'd be curious if the client's rating was correct.

Lead me not into temptation,

You just need to compare lists produced when you are running the game and when you are not running the game.

I already know the way.

we need yours to be all the same
We bring you out from under tyranny

Open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" without the quotation marks.

Open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" without the quotation marks.

This only works if you're not behind a router, NAT, etc.

use

What's my IP if you want your IP the easy way.
