Data recovery on a friends Laptop

I was wondering if anyone can suggest Data recovery software that is 100% free.

You could try Recuva file recovery from Piriform the same people that make CCleaner....I have used it in the past and it worked ok...

If you haven't already done so Don't turn the comp off ..as that can make it hard to get stuff back..

Thanks. I'm gonna try those 2 out. Well the computer had to be turned off because the files were on the main hard drive (The one that the Operating System is on) so the chances were alot higher for losing them if any thing was done on the main drive.

The Drive is going to be used on another computer to recover the files to give the best chance of getting them since not turning it off would have had the drive running for close to 14 hours now.
