My computer stopped responding to CDs about a month or two ago.

(Doesn't matter if it's a Game, DVD, etc..)

I tried updating the drivers, uninstalling then reinstalling them, and now I don't know what to do.

Help please?

Sounds like it may not be getting enough power. Did you recently install any new hardware/software? Have you moved it around lately? What I would recommend for the latter is unplug your computer, open it up, unplug the power cord to the CD drive, plug it back in, and start up your com again.

I do move it around a lot, since it's a laptop. It's currently plugged in at the moment...wouldn't that mean it has plenty of power? .-.

It may still be a cable that got loose (though it's doubtful since you stated that you don't move it around much). Your lens could be dirty though. Have you tried a lens cleaner yet?

What's a lense? Haha. Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to this.

Alright. Since it's a laptop and you probably don't know how to do this but I would have said to take your drive out and slide it back in.

In any case I believe your drive is broken or mentioned by the above poster lens are dirty or fried. There are lens cleaner discs you ca buy that you insert into your player and cleans the lens. try that if you can get you hands one.

I'll mention it to my parents tomorrow, and see if I can get my hands on one x)

Well when you stick a CD into the drive, there is a little laser that shoots at it in order to read the data. It is magnified through this small lens in your drive that reads the disc. If it is dirty, then it won't be able to read the disc and thus it will not be detected. You can buy a lens cleaning kit from walmart usually. Still before you go out and buy anything, did you download any updates lately (more specifically driver updates)?

Yeah, I got them from the Sony website, but it didn't affect it at all )=

Odd, I tried putting in a game again, and it started making sounds and the disk drive was blinking, but then it stopped...

Did it used to make those sounds when it was still working fine? If all other options fail, I would suggest getting a new drive or an external one. Those should always be your last option though.

Yeah, you could hear the disk moving in it.

And my brother's coming home for Thanksgiving in a week or two, and he's an Electrical Engineer, so he's gonna take a look at it...but I wanna have it fixed before then because I really wanna play Sims 3 y.y

OK it's moving but not reading. Probably not a power/driver problem. I'm thinking either your lens is dirty or your disc is scratched. From the sounds of things, one of 2 things is happening. Either it's not detecting the disc at all or it's mistaking the disc for a disc type that it's not. There's not too much advice I can offer but to try and clean the lens/disc. It could also be that your lens was fried by the laser if it was overclocking (and a cheap drive). If your lens was fried then you need to get a new drive.

try these two things, purchase an air canister from walmart, and clean your dvd/cd drive on the laptop. it should clean the lens on it, if that doesn't work readjust the drive so see if the adapter is connected, if THAT doesn't work send it in
