Computer to TV with S-Video

We recently bought a new computer (a HP Pavilion) and wanted to hook it up to our big screen TV via S-Video. According to all the books for the computer it can be done, but it just gives me instruction on how to hook up the cable itself (plugging it in, etc.), not how to actually get the picture onto the TV. Can anyone give me any tips? I'm running Vista, so I have Windows Media Center already installed. Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks!

(The most important part is how to run a slideshow of pictures on the TV so we can show relatives.)

the s-video cable plug should be in the back of your graphic card, what model of HP Pavilion ?

and what plugs do your TV have ?
you might need a s-video to composite and maybe even to av ?
I keep forgetting those names.

I could be completely wrong as I have wanted to do this, but have been too lazy to buy an S-Video cable,

All you should have to do is plug in the S-video cable from the back of your video card into your TV, you probably have to select the ch in which it allows input, and you probably have to go into your graphics settings and tell it to use that as your monitor (this is where I start theorizing) It's how I do my dual screen.

Finally got it all hooked up, and actually got a picture on the screen, but now the resolution is really bad. The screen has it's edges cut off...and the display resolution is as high as it will let me go...any ideas?

If it's older CRT TV then you'll only get low resolutions displayed. If you want HD resolution then you'll need more than your s-video connection and grab a HDMI enabled video card and a HD TV.
