Now this tv is pretty much only going to be used for gaming and BD/DVD purposes.

I just can't decide on which one to get. Price isn't really a concern.

I'm mainly leaning towards getting a Sony Bravia 40" Full HD LED LCD tv.

The other being a Panasonic Viera 42 Full HD LED LCD tv.

Anyone able to give me their opinions on them? Which one would be the better choice?

I'm also wondering just how much the Dynamic Contrast Ratio affects the picture. Like, BD will look a million times better the higher the ratio is, I know the answer may seem kiiiinda obvious but is there really a limit for how high it should be?

TV is correlated with insomnia. And lack of sleep is also correlated with many health problems. I suggest television solely for living room or kitchen, but not in the bedroom (as you may also be conditioned to watch tv even when you don't "want" to out of habit). Which will make your mind ruminate more -> harder to sleep.

Though i would otherwise go for the sony.

Yes, I very well know that. But I kinda already have a wonky sleep pattern and the only reason I have trouble falling asleep is because I slept in too late and still have too much energy. But most nights I just conk right on out. And it doesn't take much effort to fix up my sleeping clock.

And I wouldn't be using it at late times. Except maybe on the weekend. And even then not that late. My mum's okay with me having one for my room, just not using it until really late. Which I am perfectly fine with.

But anyway, that's one point for Sony.

Well, maybe like you mentioned, you do have alot of energy. Do you exercise before you go to sleep or involved in any club activities? If not, I suggest joining in a club to get really tired. And as long as you get 10 hours of sleep, then it's okay. But please, if you do manage to get less, you decrease your immune system (e.g. get sick more often), have trouble focusing (which is different than having more energy), and will eventually have a tendency to forget things.

Lastly, CNET is pretty good for reviews I think. They have a television section as well http://reviews.cnet.com/televisions/

Nope, don't do either of those things.

And trust me, I get 10 hours of sleep. And I haven't gotten sick for over 7 years, I notice the smaller details much more than other people and the only reason I have have a tendency to forget things is because of my NF. Which I was born with. But I pretty much remember after a few moments.
How far from the TV will you sit?

This is important for us to help you.

Also, dynamic contrast ratio is completely meaningless. It's a number made up by advertising people to be able to put a big impressive sounding number on TV's and monitors. The way it's measured isn't standardized at all, but there are reports that some companies compare the brightness of a completely white, full brightness panel with an off panel, and use that ratio (seriously).

Eh, since my room is really small, not that far. I'm thinking about mounting it on the wall across from my bed. That'll be 2 meters I guess. Three if I'm sitting on my bed leaning against the wall.

And yeah, I thought so.
Then you want to be getting a smaller TV.

Ideally you'd want a 32" TV, but at absolute maximum maybe 40"

Seriously, much larger then that and it'll be uncomfortable to use for any length of time, because it's simply too big for your space.

Hm, well, there is a 32" version for the Sony Bravia.

Are there any TVs that you'd recommend other than the ones I mentioned?
The Sony Bravia's are very good, so if one is available certainly consider it.

Another brand that makes generally good TV's is samsung.
