I got an IBM thinkpad t-40 for free =D. But there was apparently a catch -.-

there is no internal wireless card... ive opened up the laptop and see nothing where the card should be. My cousins laptop broke, so he gave it to me. so i tooketh the wireless card, and connected it into my t-40.

fit perfectly, i attached those 2 cables (yes in the right place) then closed it all up and turned my pc on. But this came up:
ERROR
1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card

Oh i should mention, my cousins old laptop that i took the wireless card from was a Gateway MA2

you mean a PCMCIA card?

no, i mean an internal wireless card, as in open the laptop, remove the keyboard, and put the card in

no he is referring to the internal minipci / pcie slot that laptops have for internal wireless

1 min while i look up how to get around it. It is a thinkpad piece of bullshit. one of the only bad things about thinkpads. I remember seeing how to get around it but i am not sure where.

be back in a jiffy

ok, so I tried various things. My goal is to keep the card in and make it work. So i did that "no-1802" thing.

The error went away, but im back to square 1 essentially. Im not receiving internet. It did detect new hardware, but i dont think it installed any drivers.

What drivers would i install now? ive installed all my t-40 drivers (and im about to do it again). But imm not sure if that will solve anything

If it came out of a gateway try gateway drivers. I would be more specific but MA2 does not help much.
