try giving flight simulator 10 administrative rights by making its default settings run as administrator as well as for the media manager.

I have been able to find the FSX events on Event Viewer, but it is giving me the same error information that I posted.

Other events following very shortly after:

The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application ---9 seconds after FSX error

A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (Flight Simulator X v10.0.61637.0) ---This occured same time as above

That is all I think there is. I'm pretty sure it tried to do an instant restart of FSX a few seconds after that and then those same messages came up again, which are present on the event viewer. After that I closed it. There are no more relevant events after those.

Edit: If I may quickly go back to an older question, what would you reccomend for registry cleaning?

Edit 2: It's coming to half 3 in the morning, I need sleep. I'll have to continue answering things later, but thank you so far for the help.

Go under administrative tools and run event viewer, check around the time you last tried to run flight sim 10 for errors or a chain of errors meaning 2 or more consecutively. Then try to discover what could possibly be causing the error , be wary of errors relating to Adobe and Mcafee both are known for this sort of thing especially in vista, post what you find or think may be the problem.

If you ca not find anything just to be safe turn off all 3rd party security and Adobe apps and see if it works if not try the maintenance

I am running Vista.

One of the errors is unknown. For another type of crash the .dll in mention is S3DWrapperD3D9.dll. I believe this is the 'addon' bloom effect I, and many others, use. It is the ENBSeries from Grand Theft Auto which can be used within the game. This is only for some of the older crashes. I have since removed this .dll completely.

For the other error, I just started my own research too and some people seem to say that a good registry clean fixed it.

Alright you have very odd error here first off it doesnt know what part ofthe program failed to cause it to crash but we can assume one thing that is is the bloom itself or a program conflicting with the bloom effect, are you running windows vista if so i know something that may work.

yep one sec im looking it over

Then you should run some maintenance to clean up the registry and the system in general but before this make sure to check the error log and post it on here and ill see what i can do.

What would you reccomend for the registry and system cleanup?

Is this the sort of error log you are looking for? That is from Problem Reports via Control panel for two seperate crashes on different days. Older crashes occured as the problem was attempting to load the boot screen, the recent ones have loaded the software and then crash when about to display the preview 3D aircraft.

Update and make sure your graphics card even can support it some effects require certain things to be hard wired into the card, if yours doesn't then you cant use that effect crashing your system because your telling it to do something that is impossible to do.

My graphics card is already updated.

My system is capable of running this game with the detail settings set to the highest setting, but recently (after a few months gap from not touching the game) the bloom effect become unstable and eventually the entire game will not load at all, not even the menu on lowest detail settings.

Yep my nVidia drivers are the latest ones, 191.7

Driver update is the first recommendation as usual.
Latest is 191.07

Bump from 2nd page.

I'm having some real difficulty trying to get bloom working in Flight Simulator X. I have found that when bloom is turned on, the game will fail to load or crash.

If I turn on bloom inside FSX, the game freezes when I click on the section that starts the default flight. There is a box with the aircraft in it (a 3D display of the current plane) that stays black for a few seconds, then the game will crash and I get the fatal error again. More recently this box has shown the default aircraft but the plane has no texture and then 20 seconds later will crash.

Likewise, if I turn on bloom during a flight, when it is re-loading the current flight it crashes. Same message.

I am using a nVidia 8600GTS 512mb. I have been able to use bloom in the past with the same set up but I don't understand why it is currently causing issues.

Could anyone reccomend tests or solutions for me to try to see where the problem is?

If it counts for anything, I was able to run the Unigine benchmark test. Settings on high and 4x trilinear filtering and it ran at an average of about 11FPS. So I can definately run things at higher settings (even with lowish FPS). It is a smallish and slightly basic benchmark test and it seemed to run alright.

Currently the game is refusing to load at all.

Cheers

This image is not porn or warez, it was a drawing of a spider.
