Welcome to Gaia! ::

I'm really not tech savvy, so I'm having a little bit of a hard time trying to figure out which laptop is right for my needs. This year, I'm entering the fashion design program at my college. I would like to know what are the specs and which brand I should consider. The fashion design director said the CP programs we'll be using are Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Illustrator CS4.

And for those who says I should get a Macbook... I heard everybody saying it's the best for everything related to art. But I honestly think it's a waste of money. I checked out the Macbooks at Bestbuy and there wasn't even a CD reader. =_= So I don't think 2g is really worth it. I'm sure there are other laptops that perform just as good as the Macbook. But if it is REALLY any good, can anybody explain to me why is a Macbook recommended? Why is it any better?
umm try skins
The reasons [or so i've heard from my art major friend] are not that Macbooks' are drastically that greater than PC's its that PC's are generally geared towards more hardcore data fields. Though people would argue that Macbook's last longer and are more user friendly, i think its just in the eye of the user. I personally can't navigate my way through a Mac even if i wanted too... But one of the main reasons i've been told that Art Majors' need a Mac is the fact that typically the jobs you get use macs and its best to be at least somewhat proficient using them.

As far as suggesting a PC, i don't really think i could do that. I'm a hardcore data and engineering guy and have absolutely no clue what you would require for art stuff sweatdrop

Haha macbooks for art? Please. Just cause alot of artists use them because they think its "artsie", it does NOT make it any more better than a pc.

If your gonna buy a laptop

Go for an HP.

There both upgradable, so yeah.

Also You can always buy an external hard drive if your worried about space, which you shouldnt anyways because both computers have more than 300gb of space.

Yeah its quite a shame that most companies are starting to use Mac's for video production, graphic design, etc.

I think im going to eventually get a mac if I want to persue video production. Which sucks cause I dont wanna dish out an extra 500 dollars to get an even better computer for less.

Then that was the Macbook Air, apple's take on a netbook. The actual macbooks have a cd/dvd drive and start a 1 grand... but you're right, there's not actually anything that makes art made on a mac better than art made on a PC. People think so because it's an old rumor, and apple's commercial try to keep spreading it because it works in their favor.
