Well I have Maya 2010 and I was looking at upgrading to a 64 bit operating system to better accommodate it. I am currently running windows XP at the moment, so I am looking for a window program.

From what I hear there are only 2 real options for windows.

1. Windows Vista
2. Windows 7

I have heard good and bad things about both, some from a windows 7 beta tester, so what do you think?

Wow they are deleting first posts like crazy.

It's a database error, I think something went weird when they launched the event.

um... windows XP 64 is much better than either windows 7 or vista. I have windows vista 64 and its just as bad as 32, and im beta testing windows 7. I really cant tell you and great difference, except that the interface is a little bit better on 7, but XP x64 is the best, easiest, and most reliable way to go. And they all support the same games, and can read over 4 gigs of ram.

and on windows 7 so far you dont have spell check online and it messes up flash games.

Cool thanks.

Still can't make up my mind.

Stay FAR away from XP64. It has very bad driver support.

Maya 2010 seemed to run decent on Win 7 pro 64 but all i really did was install and launch it.

I would reccomend Win 7.

Disregard what possessed food said, that's probably the most uneducated piece of information I've seen in a while

Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-Bit both are far better than XP 64-Bit.

Also, post your machine specifications?
We need to make sure your computer will even run correctly on a 64-Btit OS.

Well, let's lay out some pros and cons that are relevant to your plight. Windows 7 64 bit will still run and look like windows 7, the same with vista 64 bit. It'll just be prettier and shinier, oohh aahh!

Why should you?: see link

Windows Vista 64 bit: will cost you around $160 for home premium

Windows 7 64 bit: will cost you on average around $110

If you want to keep Windows XP, then opt for the 64-bit version

If it's still on the market

I am Using windows 7 64 bit and it feels as smooth as XP does with the SP2, but if i were you i wouldn't even take Vista into consideration, but to be really smart about it you should keep your version of XP, it hasn't gone completely obsolete yet. Its just that you cant get drivers for brand new part.

It was obsolete over 3 years ago.

Vista is better then XP. anyone who says otherwise doesn't actually know what they are talking about.

Yes, 7 is better then vista, but then, it's new, too.
