If Batman was a cop, there would be no story. The end, thank you for playing.

All logical explanations aside, if he'd become a cop, it woudn't be a superhero comic. Which is kinda the point.

"Untold Legends of The Batman."

Lovely little mini that. They should have a think about trading it, now it's all back in continuity.
I like the old Batman comics from like the 1940's-1970's. Golden Age of comic books! cool I remember reading a comic today, and one of the GCPD officers, called Batman an "Honorary Police Officer".

Honorary a police officer does not make...

I think he should be a P.I. at the least.

Why? That would restrict what he can do. Though Batman works within his own rules adding more to it would take away from the story.

Anyway, the identity of Batman keeps him safe from harm. I would give him a very short time to live if he came out as the Batman. Every Yahoo with insanity complex in gotham would hunt him down.

I agree. IF he was a cop he wouldn't be a hero worth reading about. It would go against the whole reason behind the comic. Making it boring and uninteresting.

Who wants to read about someone eating donuts? Or a cop that beats up the perps?

So not worth while.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Certainly, I think there are people mwho would read a comic about normal cops. It just wouldn't have the same high visibility that a man in a cape and a cowl has.

Look at the popularity of shows like Law and Order, CSI, Bones, NCIS, ect. Granted they are TV shows, and not comics. Bt it at least proves there is a market for cop stories.
that a good question..maybe he thought being a cop you couldn't do much.. neutral

Striking fear into his enemies is what he does best. Thats what the whole bat thing is about. Because lotsa people don't like bats. A method of fear. Kinda like the scarecrow.

True. Eh, I guess the thought of that happening is unpleasant to me.

Those shows are not like batman. I watch all of those shows, though i do not read them. I've found out that I can't sit down and read some of the comics of the show i used to watch when they were still on tv... I just seem not to really want to read them.

I can go on for a long time on possible things that could have happened or what would happen if but i'm not. I'd be here far too long theorizing.

The real answer to this question is simple. Bruce is arrogant and rich. He thinks he can do a better job than any cop and that his own personal brand of justice is ultimately higher than the law of the land.

There's a scene from the ... 80's?... I think... with Bruce Wayne attending classes in preparation for becoming a policeman. He ends up having an argument with his professor over "Justice vs the Law", and decides that the Law often has constraints that limit Justice.
(snip)

"Untold Legends of The Batman."

Unless you're referring to a different scene.
Bruce was in college, where he majored in Criminology, and minored in Psychology.
He was in Criminology class, and the professor put forth a situation for discussion.

Two youths go out and steal a car. They joyride around.
The youth in the passenger's seat begins to have second thoughts.
Before he can tell the driver, the car hits a pedestrian, killing her.
Is the passenger guilty of felony manslaughter?

Bruce considered, and said the passenger was guilty of car theft, but not manslaughter.

The professor corrected him, saying that the law considered both criminals guilty of both crimes.
"That's the law."

before the driver can pull over actually IIRC

The Law of the Land keeps on letting the Joker out of Arkham, hard to get lower than that.
