Welcome to Gaia! ::

1st they kill Peter Parker in Ultimate Spider-man right when he was being trained be the Avengers and replaced him. That has hurt sales on Ultimate Spider-man.
X-23 is going to stop soon she'll be in other comics but her's is almost done.
Deadpool is stopping at issue 50 with Dead is dead. Though that one will most likely restart later.

All I'm saying is I hope they know what they're doing.

Really?

LetsHaveALookAtThat...

Sales on Ultimate Spider-Man immediately before the 'death' storyline: 33,481
Sales on Ultimate Spider-Man during the 'death' storyline: 159,355
Sales on Ultimate Spider-Man for the first issue of the relaunch : 87,237
Sales on Ultimate Spider-Man for the most recent issue: 48,308

So, a nice little spike for the death and relaunch and, five issues into the 'Miles Morales Era', sales still riding comfortably higher than they were before.

Um... in those two instances, I think what they're doing is cancelling under-performing and low selling books?

Obviously there's a lot of politics surrounding this, but in and of itself "stopping doing something that isn't working" doesn't sound like an indicator of wild recklessness.
It's not like there won't be any more Deadpool books when that one ends.
Yeah, I've got to say, nothing here really makes me think Marvel are getting it wrong. It's a shame X-23's getting cancelled, but since I wasn't buying it, I can't complain.

In fact, it feels to me like everything's going right for Marvel right now. The direction of Ultimate Spider-Man is the most interesting thing the Ultimate universe has done since ... um ... it began.
I can't be bothered with the Ultimate Universe after Ultimatum, so I don't really care what happens in it. As for the other two, s**t happens. They're both popular enough that they'll probably get new books before the end of the year.

Yeah, because Deadpool will be gone for long. :l
He's not going to be gone at all. There's still Deadpool MAX, and isn't he in X-Factor or something? I dunno, I don't read DP.

Uncanny X-Force, yeah.
i never really got the point of the ultimate comics; they mix up the comics too much. And as some others had posted, X-23 and Deadpool will be present in a lot of other comics even if theirs stops for a time

I don't have much sympathy with people invested in the universe rather than the stories. There are loads of ongoing Spider-Man titles featuring Peter Parker. Does it matter that they're in a different continuity? Not if they're good, surely.

One of the Spider-Man titles replacing the lead with someone who isn't white looks to me like Exactly What Comics Should Be Doing.

Well, yes. There's an emotional element to that, because it is disappointing to see any solo female superhero titles cancelled, because there's so few of them. I have much more sympathy for X-23 fans than Peter Parker fans.

But like I said before, I'm part of the problem, since I wasn't buying it. It's a commercial decision rather than a moral one. I hope Marvel find a way to produce commercially viable female-led books, but I'm still more likely to buy comics based on the writer than the character.

The point was to get new readers on board who were put off by seeing "Issue 420" on the cover. People will happily buy issue #1.

Over a decade later, the problem that used to plague the main continuity now exist for the Ultimate universe too - "Issue 159? That's 158 comics I have to catch up on!"

DC's new 52 is an attempted solution to the same problem. Reboot, renumber, relaunch, because people will buy issue #1.

For a while now, Marvel's hit on what I think is the most elegant solution - renumber whenever we're at the start of a new "run" (so, normally, when there's a new writer/artist team taking over). Which means Rick Remender's X-Force #1 sells well, even though it's following up a very recent X-Force series.

This does make the Ultimate universe seem a bit pointless. Which is why killing off Peter Parker seems like the right direction to take - use the Ultimate universe to tell different stories, rather than support the primacy of the main continuity.

This and the fact that they also should consider doing a price cut. There stories can be good but not for more than 3.99 good.

Yeah, this has really been pissing me off. I would love to be reading Defenders and Scarlet Spider, but I'm not paying $4 for it.
