Suggestions:
Active-
Amya Chronicles-High fantasy epic, gorgeous art, and an large cast a plot. And if you're into supporting webcomics, it has 4 days left on it's kickstarter
Guilded Age-Another high fantasy comic, an MMORPG, genre parodying, punfest.
Supernormal Step-In a world where there is not city named boston, there is also no band named Boston. The MC thinks this is a great crime. That, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
DMFA-It's got anthropomorphic animals as the main cast, but it's still awesome, and does a great mix of laughing your a** off, world building, and making you cry uncontrollably
El Goonish Shive-A story of higschoolers dealing with life, love, lasers, labs, transgender birthday parties, magical hammers and fairies, and a lovable squirrel girl.
Inactive/Finished/Slow Updater-
Captain SNES-A sprite comic. 13 years in the making, a huge plot, massive cast, and so much nostalgia, nuance, and dark comedy, it's almost hard to wait one to two months for an update....
Goblins-A DnD based webcomic, it has wonderful art, an interesting perspective, and for action fans, a decent amount of blood and gore. Currently on hiatus.
Dominid Deegan-Oracle for Hire:The pun master. Amazing characters, puns that while painful, you still go back to, and a fun, interesting world. Completed. At exactly 3000 pages

I like Gunnerkrigg Court, though it certainly requires a robust memory to remember what they're talking about when they mention something that hasn't come up in a while sometimes.

Probably my favorite comic (right now at least) is Order of the Stick because it's got a long, overarching story but it's also really funny. Then the one webcomic I've actually made fanart for is Homestuck.

I also like to read Selkie and Between Failures. Then Ears For Elves is pretty good but-aw man, just typed the link into my url bar and it's gone. sad . I was hoping it would resume someday....

Incidentally, is it socially acceptable to mention one's own webcomics here, or would that just devolve into chaos?
I am up to date in a lot of webcomics at the moment but the ones I want to recommend you all right now are Unsounded (heavily fantasy, follows a thief girl with a tail and her 'attack zombie' grouchy spellcaster escort) and Stand Still, Stay Silent ( a nordic set post-apocalyptic exploration party story, with supernatural consequences to a terrible plague.) Both are fun in the character writing and have GORGEOUS art.
I'm reading something called Henchmen right now. It's really um...weird. But I think its about to get really good. Still waiting for the next update.

At the moment, Ava's Demon is the only web-comic I am reading; I'm hooked.
(Especially after the last couple updates.)

The Black Brick Road of Oz

Both of them are very fantasy themed, but really nice reads!
