Welcome to Gaia! ::

Many years ago, a couple of guys created history. A small time black and white comic book that parodied superheroes and martial arts movies in some of the oddest ways. As a certain boy was splashed in the eyes with a vat of chemicals (a not-so-subtle reference to Daredevil), a young boy was dropping a bowl full of baby turtles . . . which happened to quickly find themselves immersed in the same glowing goop. Rescued by the pet rat of the late Hamato Yoshi, these turtles and this rat would grow well beyond the limits of their species' capacities. Trained from the moment of this encounter in the arts of the shinobi, the turtles, each named after Renaiossance artiosts from a bookthat the rat fioshed from the sewers they lived in, The Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles were born.

Soon, they would inspire a television series (which in itself would spawn an entirely DIFFERENT comic book series under the Archie imprint), toys, movies and merchandising of all capacity.

In recent days, the Turtles have been returned to their roots at Mirage (completely striking from memory a brief run at Image) with the ongoing titles of TMNT and Tales of the TMNT . . . as well as a mini-series based on a blinded Leonardo (which is handled in quite a unique manner. Most of the art is in sihloette.).

So . . . who's enjoyed the series in it's past incarnations? Who's reading the current version? Where would you like the comics to go in the future?
I'm actually kinda lost when it comes to the newer series. I grew up with the cartoon and loved the hell out of the few issues of the comic I could find. I want to try the mirage series(Though my wallet will hate me for it I'm sure.) but I don't know where to start now. Any reccomendations on back issues/trades I should try to get?
tmnt is cool

I just jumped in ^^;; I really like Blind Sight (the Leo series), and tales is pretty good. It seems to just be an anthology, so no worries about continuity or anything.

Well as Raphael said the Tales of TMNT title is usually one issue stories taking place in the past when the turtle were teens. The main title TMNT takes place after the other Mirage volumes and ignores the Image volume. Its currently on a 8 month hiatus since Laird is helping with the movie so now might be the time to buy back issues. There currently aren't any trades out, but there will be in the future(trades of Tales of TMNT). You can even jump over to ninjaturtle.com and read summaries of past issues. Just click on the side where it says comics. I hope you give the new titles a try because they are all top notch.
I wish I could buy them but, I can never find them. And, they don't hold them at my lcs.

I'm not sure I like the idea of a "good" shredder. It just seems so odd . . .

The actual Shredder being good, or are you referring to when Raph led the Foot?

(Haven't picked up the comics, but I'm a fan of the cartoons and movies)

In the most recent issue of the ongoing series, Leo met a differenty man wearing the Shredder armor.

But Raph in the Shredder suit was pretty cool . . .

Leo's just met a good version of the Shredder called Oroko Yoshi at the Battle Nexus in the comics. I think the Yoshi is significant, Master Splinter's owner (and Oroko Saki's rival) being called Hamato Yoshi.

"Yoshi" is the first name, not the last name.

Interesting none the less.

Yes, I know. That's what I was getting at.

I know Hamato is the family name, our own Raphael can attest to that.
