It feels like you're my multi-media comics guru these days. Or maybe it feels like I'm stalking you by accident?

There probably aren't many of us Welsh comic fans who're also into Iris Wildthyme and Big Brother, so thus far it's felt like a natural consequence of that confluence of interests rather than actual stalking. That surveillance van you've got over the road is pushing it a bit, mind.

Oh, it's driven off. Ta.

Should I dive right in, then? Or is there good stuff in backstory? I'll Wikipedia it if it's crap, but I'm not itching to get to the new stuff immediately or anything.

n** back a page to see us discussing this with Wally. The whole Gillen run's great (and reads fine in isolation) but the forthcoming Christmas issue sounds an especially good starting point.

My X-Men needs are a bit more specific. My wife loves them to the tiniest little bits, so she'll want Everything That's Good ultimately. I think she's up to Messiah CompleX. I think she might have picked up a Manifest Destiny trade at some point.

Fair dos. I'll have a think later and see if I can think up an 'Everything That's Good' list from there to here.

That's true, but I find it very odd that we're only now suddenly turning up in the same places. Before then? I've been on the internet years, and I'm assuming you have too, and the only other context in which I've ever come across you is your excellent Doctor Who canon article. Which is very highly thought of among, um, Iris Wildthyme writers. That's probably obvious.

Probably just because my people can't be sure exactly where you live. I suppose I should've stationed them outside comic shops.

Wow, Gaia's censorship really does draw attention to swears and slurs which wouldn't otherwise have come up, doesn't it?

Ta, though - that is a Handy Thing.

I couldn't resist picking up the first X-Force TPB today, and I'm basically enjoying it. It's got some problems, but they're sort-of in-built. The writing and the art are lovely.
Picked up the volume 4 trade of Hickman's Fantastic Four today. I know one or two major things about this run, but I'm two issues in and it's AMAZING SURPRISE! after AMAZING SURPRISE!

The page where human Ben visits Alicia made me cry. In a busy pub in Swasnea! On the dancefloor! Well, okay, at a table which had been put on the dancefloor for daytime. But I very rarely cry at comics. I blub non-stop at TV, though - it must be the acting. And Steve Epting's characters can ACT!

I also picked up Pax Romana - the guy in the shop noticed my Hickman-heavy order and recommended it, and I felt too guilty at not supporting creator-owned comics not to buy it.

EVERYONE WHO LOVES HICKMAN read something he's drawn too. That thing in his Marvel work, where he includes lots of footnotes and background details? Imagine those woven directly into the stories - imagine entire narratives built around them. I've not even finished the first issue of Pax Romana, and I already feel like I've gotten so much out of it.

Oh, well then. That sounds like my starting point.

I can now confirm that this is the case.

JiM #632 exists to ******** up any 'Most Fun Comic of 2011' lists that anyone's made too early, and couldn't be more Christmasy if it had a bereaved Kermit.
Right, comic shop tomorrow it is, then.
Well, I've taken the opportunity of Christmas break to catch up on 'Journey Into Mystery.' It's a great comic and I will continue reading it until Marvel figures out they're publishing something I really really enjoy again and inevitably cancel-slash-ruin it somehow.

I only wish I wasn't reading "We Need to Talk About Kevin" at the same time...
